Round 1

Watson jabs and backs off, using his length and some quick feet to loiter out of Rees' range. Rees doubles his jab and steps around with a big right hand. Rees isn't landing very cleanly. Watson is using the full ring but not throwing much Rees' way. Rees runs in and lands a jab to the lip. Watson is backed to the ropes and punches his way off. Rees plugs away with both hands and turns up the heat. Watson keeps his defenses tight under the pressure but doesn't counter much. Rees is slapping Watson with shots that bow his legs a little even though they're blocked.

Round 2

Watson gives ground and adopts a jab and grab style while Rees stalks him. Good hooks to the body by Rees. Watson sticks his jab out while standing in. Rees chopping with right hands as Watson leans back to the ropes. Rees drops his hands, sticks his chin out and trades jabs with Watson. Another body hook by Rees. Watson is trying to slug with Rees now and having a little success.

Closer round, but 20-18 Rees

 

Round 3

Rees barrels forward behind both fists, pushing Watson into a corner. Rees is cut on the nose but is landing sledgehammer blows and actually using a little fancy defense now to snake around the omnipresent jab of Watson, which is virtually the younger boxer's only defense. Rees is just a flurry of hand activity on the inside. Watson triples his jab and tries to line up a downward crossbow bolt of a right hand. Rees is changing levels and coming at Watson from different angles, always with a slew of punches.

Round 4

Overhand rights continue to be a goldmine for Rees. Watson is trying to hold his ground and punch with Rees but is clearly not comfortable with the pace and is actually overmatched in combination handspeed. Watson keeps trying for a straight right hand but finds Rees an uncooperative target.

40-36 GR

 

Round 5

Watson is doing a bit better now, hooking off his jab now. He still isn't able to bring the right across too cleanly, but he's meeting Rees halfway and fighting with him. Finally a right hand lands and stops Rees in his tracks. They clinch and punch. Good stuff.

Round 6

Watson looses combos now, hooks and hammering rights coming together while Rees tries to jump through them and start to bully Watson on the inside. Rees can't get there. Watson is ready for every advance and keeping his hands moving. Lots of jabs from Watson and Rees just blasts him with several clapping shots, headhunting. Watson doesn't back up and hangs right in there with him.
