As they both are now, at this stage of their careers.

Jose is still a boy. Frankie would batter him IMO

Well Benavidez would in terms of talent, he's freakishly tall for a LWW and opponents just can't get close to him because of how well he utilises his jab. Of course he hasn't been in with much competition compared to Gavin.

But I just think he's a bit better right now.

Benavidez for the simple fact he is even in sparring with Khan and pushes Pacquiao close, Gavin is good but I feel he is not on the same level as this kid.

This is a classic thread....what was the name of the other LA kid, the Golden Boy wonderboy? Ortiz, remember him. He was this, he was that...blah, blah, blah and then...he quit against Maidana, said he didn't want to get hurt. This kid Benavidez has been pushed by a couple of British journalists. Consider this...one of the British journalists had no idea who James Cook was? Why would anybody listen to a word of what he writes or says?
Frankie won the World amateur title - Benavidez is impressing clowns who know nothing in the gym. One is fact, one is opinion.
Every fighter in Roach's gym 'holds' their own with Pacman and Khan and King Kong. For gawd's sake, see some sense and stop believing everything that you hear.
I've been with British boxing writers in American gyms and the first kid to throw a six punch combination, accompanied by an old Black geezer going...'thas right, champ', leads to a dumb chorus of ...'He's brilliant, he is.' Total shite.
The same writers should go to Leeds and watch Jack Bateson and Qasis Ashfaq. It does annoy me that we push obscure Americans more than we push our own hidden fighters.

    Adios.

Speaking of Bateson Bunce, how is he progressing? Seems to have went off the radar a bit since last year (when he won against Saba - wouldn't mind knowing how he is doing either).

No, Frankie winning the World championship in Chicago is fact - he beat the two best fighters in the world on the way to the title (reigning world and Olympic champions). That's not opinion...watching Benavidez fight a total bum on Youtube and then declaring him at a higher level to Gavin is opinion. Trust me, it is opinion.
There is also something called 'opinion based on experience'. This is a bit trickier. It goes something like this...having watched Duran in the gym, Hamed in the gym etc...I reckon that Benavidez is blah, blah, blah. This also includes sitting with fighters like Tyson, Hopkins and De La Hoya and getting their opinion of Roach. As I said, opinion based on experience.
There is also the reasoning of the stupid. It goes like this...American gym, American fighters, fast hands...is better than anything in UK. Garbage.
We all have opinions...I also deal in facts.
    Adios.

So Ortiz quits against Maidana and now every American prospect should be tarred with the same brush? Just because some people are picking Benavidez doesn't mean you need to go off on one of your biased rants, everyone is entitled to an opinion. Speaking of Maidana, what is worse in your opinion, Ortiz quitting against him or Amir Khan ducking him :huh

For the record I'll go with Gavin to win, Benevidez is very talented but as has been said before he's still just a kid.

    It's not..for the last time...opinion. Gavin's credentials are facts.
Khan and Ortiz...neck and neck. But, I understand Khan looking at other people for more money. It's a business.
My 'biased rants' ...you mean, talking and writing about British boxers? Well, that is what I get paid to do. See tomorrow's Independent, this weekend's Sunday Mirror, next week's BBC London show.
I also warned on Setanta about Jacobs and Korobov. There was an attempt at an online kicking for that!

    Adios.
