The quite well known, brash, very talkative, charismatic American Paulie Malignaggi vs the unknown, non-English speaking Argentinian Marcos Maidana. I think I know who I would be choosing to do the bigger numbers :yep;)

It doesnt matter what language he speaks. No one gave Paulie a chance against Khan. It didn't create intrest no matter how much trash Paulie spat. Khan versus a murderous puncher like Maidana would be huge, simply because of Khans chin.

yep Sky would of made maidana out to be a right ****ing machine with his knockout power.

it would of done good numbers with a good promotion.

Haven't read through the whole thread yet but :deal

Gomez is a special talent. Proven at top amateur level like Frankie. World Champs silver medallist at 19 and he beat Benavidez in the ams. Plus he's got a very pro style.

Yeah thats the point Malignaggi talks a lot but actually does very little, no-one would have paid for it apart from die hard Khan fans because the result was never in doubt whereas Maidana could beat Khan, personally I think Khan will out box him but he does have the power to beat him.

How much draw did Paulie even have in the states at the time, he'd gone 1-1 with the smaller Diaz, and looked a bit lackluster in both. He couldn't even draw many people in New York.

How impressive and how much excitement would it have built to not have faced the killer of Ortiz? You think they couldn't have promoted that?

The whole excuse about needing Paulie to sell Khans first fight doesn't wash with me. It was just because it was an easy fight for Khan, lets call a spade a spade.

    Khan vs Malignaggi viewing figures:

    4:30am - 600,000 viewers
    Morning repeat - 1,500,000 viewers

So it didn't create interest? And as I mentioned earlier, ITV did no promotion at all for the fight apart from the odd advert on the day, yet it still got more than half a million viewers in the early hours.

Maidana's a nobody in the UK. The man on the street has no idea who he is. Malignaggi fought Hatton, talks a lot. It's quite obvious which fight sells more in the UK.

:huh But they were trying to sell the fight in the US? They weren't trying to sell it in the UK at all.

They ended up on ITV with no promotion in the UK. Surely a progressive step in his career would have been something Sky Sports would have got behind.

Exactly. I hated the fight as most people did, and wanted him to fight Maidana, but we know which fighter was the bigger draw - both over here and in the States.

And Maidana is a nobody in the US as well. The boxing fans know him for his upset of Ortiz but that's it. At least Paulie has some sort of following in New York.

We're talking about (or at least I was) who would have sold more PPV's over here - Maidana or Malignaggi.

If Khan-JMM gets made I'm going on a sabbatical...and I mean it this time.

The board will get unbearable after the fight, with people proclaiming Khan 'one of the best British fighters of all time' and 'top ten P4P'
