    :hi:

I've just about recovered from the seemingly longest drive ever back from York Hall, with about half a dozen junctions on the M6 closed and a diversion that sent me about 15 miles in the wrong direction, and also the shame of being pulled over for allegedly not having insurance just before the rush hour traffic kicked in, leaving us worrying that we'd miss plenty of the action.... with Dan and his mate Tommo in the back of the car pulling funny faces while I'm being grilled by a member of our police force, who ought to be catching real criminals!

    Anyhoo, enough of that.

When the Gavin vs Witter fight was made I saw it as a bit of a no-win assignment for Frankie, given his lifeless display against Mutley his apparent struggles against negative opponents/spoilers seemed likely to come to the fore, and so it proved.

The only way Witter was going to be able to win was by spoiling, attempting to pick Gavin's pockets and/or landing a hail mary shot - which he didn't throw anywhere near enough of. His best punches were those rabbit shots landed during the numerous clinches.

Frankie boxed reasonably well, showed a bit of patience and didn't get suckered into leaving his chin out to dry. There's still a few things to work on, he pawed with his jab too much again and didn't work the body enough for my liking - for me it's a real strength of his, and he could have used it more to keep Witter from moving around so much.

Witter, it's time for him to retire. He looked alright for a few rounds, but once his initial burst had left him he had very little, and being about ten feet away from him as he gave his post fight interview you could see that he knew the game was up for him. At 38, he's been inactive for years and most of his strengths have left him.

I scored it 117-111, the first and the fourth to Witter, and the last. Everything else to Frankie.

As for young Heffron, firstly I can't see where the 77-76 card came from. I gave McDonagh the 7th round and he might have nicked/shared one or two others, but I felt that throughout the contest Heffron was in control and dictated the action.

It really was the same old, same old - standing in front of the opponent, loading up with every shot and being caught with punches that he shouldn't be taking.

He just seems to lack ring intelligence at the minute, that's the main thing that I think Arnie needs to address, he himself admitted that he was frustrated how often Ronnie was caught with his feet planted - food for thought certainly.

I think he just likes having a tear up, neglecting his height and reach advantage, and abandoning his jab.

On the plus side, he uses his footwork well to set up his body shots, which he digs in well, especially the right hand which he didn't really use too much last night.

Plenty to work on, he's certainly not a lost cause but unless he's careful and fights a bit smarter he's going to come acropper at some stage, before he reaches championship class.

Saying that, I'd still make him a strong favourite to waste Skeete inside a couple of rounds, I'd make that fight next.

We were all agreed that the undisputed star of the night was Jody Meikle, entering the ring to ''Barbie Girl'' and pulling loads of funny faces and making some quality moves. Top man.

Most of the other undercard fights aren't really noteworthy, one lad in particular took a bit of a beating, and another was way out of his depth, not fancying it from the minute he took a rangefinding jab and then turning his back on his opponent before rightly being stopped by IJL :)yikes)

All in all a good night, not the most thrilling of cards but I've been to much worse :thumbsup

Jody was hilarious, especially when he took a punch and did that funny sink to his legs thing. :rofl

He looks like Ryan Rhodes and Gollum, has got a girls name and came out to barbie girl.

Made me laugh on TV when Lillis was saying he is aloud to go back and watch Scunthorpe play, apparently he was banned from going.

Terrible card though, Meikle was the shinning light, at least he had a laugh, the main event was just dire, as I predicted, and to be honest having the fights at York Hall was just wank.

    It's a matchbox venue.

    Yes, I do :yep

In fairness the copper said that he knew from the way I was that it was just a mistake on the system.

He said that usually people are a gibbering wreck if they've not got it, they claim it's their mum's car and then contradict themselves etc.

**** must have been tailing me for a while though, given that I moved out of the way twice to try and let him past :patsch
