GB will do a lot worse at the next Olympics

    I remember people saying this after the 2008 Olympics but then look what happened. The recent results at the Europeans were excellent from a relatively inexperienced team. I think there's some real potential in the squad. Ashfaq, Fowler, Pat McCormack have real chances of medalling next year depending on their form and the draw.

    I suspect they will significantly do worse than they did in 2012, however the recent Euro's were great and could give the team some confidence.

    I agree with the names InsideJab mentioned. Both the McCormack twins are quality and I like the look of that Muhammad Ali kid at Flyweight as well.

    Another one to look out for is Calum French who beat Peter McGrail in the final of the senior ABA's. Not on the podium squad atm but should be pushing through soon. Very skilful kid, watched some quality sparring between him and the McCormack's at Birtley.

    that was a weakened eropean championships, they did a lot worse at the euro games which was a marginally stronger field

    you can only beat who they beat infront of you and the team did just that for the vast majority of the competition, undeniably a successful tournament. Great experience and confidence builder for some of the less experienced members of the squad too.

    I'm pretty sure that you can only beat what's infront of you applies when you're only beating what's in front of you. It's pretty self explanatory really.

    I think our talent is if anything better. Joyce is in my opinion at least on the level Joshua was at that time and there's a lot of talent.

    Nah joyce isn't as good as Joshua

    Horn isn't doing much at 49kg
    Ali at 52kg is a serious prospect
    Ashfaq is good at 56kg but conlon has his number
    Cordina is ok but won't do anything at the worlds or olympics, I temember doj stopping him easily
    64kg mccormack is good and making progress
    69kg kelly, not sure how much he Can do
    75kg fowler is too busy crying and has gone backwards over the last year
    81kg buatsi won his bronze through getting the easiest draw in history and isn't at much
    91kg joyce is very good

    Joyce and Ali are the best in the squad

    too good not too? then why does he keep getting beat? theres no such thing as being too good not to qualify, Joe Ward was the best fighter in the world at 81kg in 2012 and he didn't qualify for the Olympics. Fowler couldn't qualify through the wsb because he got beat and didn't qualify for the world thorugh the euros because he got beat

    bottom line is if he doesn't buck up his act he can kiss the Olympics good bye

    Ali is nothing special for what I've seen, think he's been very fortunate with a few of honours.

    The irish obsession with criticising all things gb boxing is a bit tedious now.
