I stand by this score. You ban me for it, then make it a ****ing perma-ban...because I honestly feel that Nagrete won this fight and no threats of time off this site will change that opinion.

No you don't. You're full of **** and just doing it to be a contrarian, I guess that's why you retired from Kirk's, you wanted to try your hand at something new.

I watched the fight and scored it the way I god damned scored it.

Nagrete was more accurate and Melian throwing tons of slop at his gloves wasn't enough to overcome that, at least during this first viewing. Period.\

Now, you can ban me for disagreeing with the consensus opinion on this site (though not on others), or you can PM me and upbraid me to your heart's content. That's your choice. Either way, I'm done with this argument on this thread. You have your opinion, and I have mine. Let's leave it at that.

Negrete was not robbed against Franco even once, all three of the matches were ridiculously close and the draws were more than justified. This is against a guy who is fairly subpar like Franco, clearly Negrete has reached his ceiling. So it's not like he was jobbed and in need of being paid back by Golden Boy. So.... why the hell did they feel it necessary to rob outright a young talent like Melian coming off of an upset loss? I mean clearly Baez is a talent, it wasn't just a case of Melian being an overrated hypejob, Baez dominated Flores in a similar fashion to Danny Roman. Granted it is a diminished version of Flores, but still if he wasn't any good, Baez would have been found out.

So how about adjust on the fly their plans of robbing Melian, the fact that Dougie Fischer was spewing his incredulous bull**** all night about how easily Negrete is winning the fight, it's all the evidence you need to know there was a setup. It's a clear pattern with Golden Boy shows. But when what's happening in the ring is clearly is not matching what they're saying, and the whole card basically validating how good both Baez and Melian are. What the f*** did they achieve by robbing the Argentine blind?

I mean, it's not like it's going to make people like Negrete. No one likes it when a robbery victim gets a gift himself, but especially if the robbery victim has yet to be a robbery victim like Negrete. So all they ended up doing was blunting the career of a budding talent, and cause everybody to turn on ne'er do well Negrete, in the process.

    Everything about this is illogical.

Funny, I guess @IntentionalButt and @PinoyProdigy missed what other people saw as well. Of maybe you two are both just full of ****.

    ...alright - neutral corners, gentlemen.

I strongly disagree with @Drew101's scoring on this one (and his takeaway of Negrete doing the sharper quality work) but I do not doubt its good-faith sincerity. Honestly in the whole second half Melián fatigued and got very sloppy, not to such an extent that I can see giving Negrete a majority of those rounds, but enough that if you were truly reaching for Negrete (and I'm probably the biggest fan of his in this conversation, FWIW) you could maybe reach a draw. My real issue with Drew's card is that Melián rather clearly dominated the first half.

Sometimes we just disagree and see & value different things in a fight. You and I have been separated by pretty big chasms before scoring wide for opposing combatants. So have you and @PinoyProdigy, so have PP and I, so have PP and Drew. It happens. In this case I can see (but not agree with) the logic of reaching a draw, but not the 96-94 for Negrete. At least he didn't have it a shutout, or defend the judges. Because that would seem like trolling.

I don't think it rises to nefarious intent...just misapplication of criteria.

You two always beef so vehemently, and I can usually see both sides. :sisi1

Well, you know me well enough to know that I'm an accuracy nerd...and this came into play during a few of these rounds.

I know that Compubox stats aren't the be all and end all, but in this case, I think they tell the story over the first couple of rounds. Melian was more active, but Nagrete, landed cleaner, better, and more over the first couple of rounds. Maybe you can give Melian credit for partial contact on some of those, and maybe a few of those rainbow rear hands wrapped around the guard...but to my eye, most of them didn't make enough clean contact to be considered as scoring blows over the first two frames.

That leaves four other rounds to score for Nagrete. I thought six, eight and ten were pretty clear for Nagrete, as well. A couple of other rounds were quality-quantity affairs. So, I guess a draw would be feasible, but for me, Nagrete looked the proper winner on the first viewing.

Chris is just mad because I slag off on Orton. :D

I'm big on accuracy too, just didn't see much if any of it from Negrete in the first half - and even when he did land, he didn't clear that next hurdle of effectiveness. Glancing/skimming touches don't count for as much in my book as thudding shots like the hooks that Melián strapped across his jaw (or the uppercuts plugged into the body) in most of the first half.

In the last five, I'll grant you, even in the rounds I thought he won Melián was eating some downright stupid punches flush.

I guess it just seemed to me that a lot of Melian's shots to the body and head weren't getting through the guard, and the few shots that did catch my eye didn't do much to dissuade or bother Negrete. In contrast, Negrete was able to land cleanly in the first couple, and while those shots weren't necessarily powerful, they were forceful enough to redden Melian's features, cut him, and eventually convince him to try a different tactic and move forward.

We're at different sides of this particular chasm, I fear. Whatever. It happens.
