Round 6

Melián is coming forward, attacking from either stance, beginning to grow a bit wild and undisciplined, maybe a tad punched out. Negrete is now adopting the role of counter-puncher, willingly sinking into the corner in a crouch and walking Melián onto flush left hooks on the cheek and chopping rights on the nose. Melián is trying for the body with underhanded torpedoes, but Negrete is able to slide his feet back and catch him with accurate headhunting counters.

Er, as of the halfway point it was anyway. Of course Negrete turns it around right after I make that post, just to make IB look like an ass.

 

Round 7

Melián is abandoning the ineffective flood of aggression now, in favor of leaning to his side at the waist and pawing up jabs at Negrete, then parrying Negrete's right hand leads with his own right arm while circling out and tossing counter uppercuts and hooks on the backfoot. Negrete is wading in, jabbing and thrusting out lead rights nonstop, but all of them whistle past Melián's head. A light smattering of body shots from both.

Round 8

Melián is ducking and jabbing into the forearms of Negrete, then missing big windmill rights up top. Negrete for his part is jabbing past the mohawk, unable to find Melián cleanly with a jab, but sometimes catching him with the follow-up right stepping forward. Melián is mouth breathing, dancing away, slapping up top with the right but not busting through Negrete's guard with it.

Round 9

Melián is threshing at the midsection with both hands, using his elbows to flip Negrete back a few paces when not punching. Negrete's own body combos are largely deflecting off Melián's blurring arms. Negrete tries a cuffing hook up top behind the head, but Melián is ducking and coming up flurrying. Melián eats a big right hand and is momentarily backed into a corner, but then starts grinding in close and hooking the body. Melián claps down across the face of Negrete with a right while backing him against the ropes. They messily scrap together into a clinch, after some missing and patty-cake. Melián bores through Negrete's guard with a right hand and then ducks in front of Negrete, picking off some jabs to catch his breath. Melián then jumps in with some uppercuts on the chest. Negrete firing a predictable 1-2, ducked.
