I think GBP is trying to set up a big fight between Lara and Alvarez. They have been carefully moving in this direction. It all started with the controversy of the Lara- Williams fight. Many thought they were feeding Lara to the dogs. He proved to the world that he is a very skilled boxer in that fight. Canelo has been moved a little more carefully because of his lack of an amateur career. We know what happened with Vargas once he stepped up big in competition. He was young and quite an attraction, similar to Canelo. We have to be patient with this. Here is what I see happening. Notice Alvarez is going after southpaws. P.Williams was going to be used as a measuring stick to see how Canelo would do against a southpaw. Kirkland, and even Ortiz was on the list. Lara has a fight on the 30th of June. The main event on that card is for the IBF Championship. Lara will probably be in line for a title shot with the winner. Just my opinion, but I don't see K9 or Spinks beating Lara. Wouldn't a unification bout between Lara and Canelo be huge for this sought after date for next year. Just a thought fellas. What do you guys think?
Lara is GB's backup of a backup plan... Kirkland was their guy, Then Ishida happened! Then Golden signed Angulo to be the match for Alvarez. They fed him Kirkland their OG bust & "Flop" That backfired but... Kirkland was hot again. Then comes Lara, the "Break in case of emergency".
GB uses Kirkland as a ko attraction. They know he doesn't have the boxing skills it takes to be a really solid world champion. They knew Lara was gifted, but understood that Canelo was too and Canelo has a huge fan base. Angulo would only be the second coming of Margarito at best. These guys know what they are doing. It just becomes frustrating at times because we as fans don't believe in build ups. We want it NOW!! This is what makes upsets so intriguing. They have to have more build up time with another fighter or make the big fights happen.
I think if Lara had a good fanbase they would make this fight asap. There letting Lara grow his fanbase . I think is brilliant as far as from the business standpoint. We will see this fight at some point.
