I agree with you but don't act as if Top Rank hasn't pulled this same type of ****, if not worse. They did it with Pac-Clottey a fight no one cared about.:deal:

 for that to make any type of sense, GBP would have to know Pac was going to win this weekend. Plus Arum hasn't made anything official. THe closest he's said to Pac's next fight is that Rios and Bradley or options.

Nothing is official. It's a damn rumor you nut.

Then I doubt Oscar even thought of Pacquiao when he made the offer and I doubt Arum did as well. He turned the offer down because "You don't trade boxers like you trade baseball players".

I guess you just hand them over with nothing in return

Good fights that people want to see are not bad for boxing. Is Trout/Canelo a better fight for boxing purists? Yeah, it is, but that catering to the boxing purists isn't good for the sport. When you talk about the history of boxing, you mention fights like Tyson/Lewis, Ali/Frazier III, Hagler/Leonard and so on. None of these were 'great' fights and I'm sure that boxing purists at the time dismissed them because there was a better alternative out there than the big fight which eventually happened. That's just the nature of the sport and when big fights can happen, it's beneficial to go ahead with them.

Trout is a good boxer and a nice guy. He'll get his chance to shine in the future. For now though, I don't see any issue with going ahead with Canelo/Cotto. It's a fight which would be huge for Mexicans and Puerto Ricans, so even if it's not the best fight out there, it is the best fight for the health of the sport. Not only would it attract great PPV numbers, if Canelo wins, he will be a superstar and if Cotto wins, he's back to being a PPV attraction.

Boxing needs to cater to the general public rather than the boxing purists. If there is a megafight to be had, they should go with it. That's better for the sport than catering to a minority of purists who realise that Trout is a better match up for Canelo.

By the way, I think Cotto/Canelo has the potential to be an amazing fight and I hope it happens. It's a potential FOTY candidate.

I'm holding out hope that before its all said and done we will see Trout Canelo, maybe not May 2013.

But if Trout keep taking care of business, and Al Haymon in his corner, they can't ignore him for too long.

Lose two fights in a row? Ah **** it... get the shot anyways over the undefeated guy who just beat you.

    Unbelievable

thats pretty pathetic....Cotto will be minced meat once Canelo is done with him.

dude is a stepping stone for this real 154 pounders.

its gonna be sad watching his wife and sons witness another beating

But the numbers it would do would be great. I'm more concerned about Canelo and Cotto's financial well being than seeing proper fights.

Let's get real basic here. It's called negotiations. Both sides make offers and then start countering. If the money is there for Donaire/Mares, it will get made. You call Arum greedy in one breath and then think he is going to leave money on the table in the next. Arum turning down one PR stunt counter in the press is not the same as killing the fight. I still can't believe none of you guys picked up on Arum's offer being a turn around of the Mayweather offer. (If you want to say May was acting on his own, don't. He didn't pick up the phone and offer Pac $40 mill of his own money when he doesn't even have a license to put the fight on.) If Donaire/Mares doesn't get made it will be for lots of reasons and not one statement Arum muttered to the press.

Cotto will make nice money no matter who he fights at msg. Alvarez has no opinion even if he tries.
