Canelo last fought a JWW ffs. Cotto's best weight was JWW. Pac pushed him to WW to JMW before he left Arum. If Cotto doesn't have the fire in his belly to train hard enough to get back to at least WW he shouldn't be in the business anymore and should retire.

Sorry but I dont want to see cotto fight for 5 rounds then backpeddle and sit on ropes all the while displaying his garbage swagger for the next 7 as he's getting his ass beat. It's lame and his face will probably unrecognizable from Canelos left hook and uppercut. Please Canelo/Trout or Canelo/Floyd. Hell get MArtinez in there as well. I want to see winners, not losers.

Let me condense this. Trout decisioned Cotto WIDE. If Canelo is a 'champ' he takes the winner of the fight.

I never said the scorecards for Cotto/Trout weren't fair. I scored it 116-112 Trout but could see 117-111 as well. The 119 scorecard was bad though.

I even said in my last comment that I didn't think Cotto deserved the Canelo fight immediately. I said I'd be okay if he built himself back up and then got it, but not now. I want to see the Trout fight next.

Stylistically, I think Canelo is going to be trouble for Trout. Canelo's a huge, strong bull at 154, and he's got solid counterpunching, timing, handspeed, power, pressure, ring-cutting ability... Trout won't be able to keep him at bay like he kept Cotto outside, and Canelo will have the edge in close. He'll break him down and get him out of there late. He has much more handspeed, power, and explosiveness than Cotto, and if Cotto could tag Trout at times in the early/middle rounds before he did his usual gassing for the last third/fourth of the fight, well, Canelo is going to be able to hit him too. And Trout isn't going to be able to tank Canelo's shots the same way he tanked Cotto's.

I simply don't know if Canelo is 'for real' or not. This is ENTIRELY GBP's fault. If the Trout fight gets made and if Canelo prevails he will deserve the title "champion". This won't happen with a Cotto fight.

Ultimately after much bitching and moaning, we will all pay GBP to see this fight. Why? Because they know we will. GBP a G.

    Trout gets demolished. :deal

Said it after DROD, say it again. Its politics holding it back, not Canelo.

To me, as a hardcore fan, the Canelo-Cotto fight as lost its worth. But I understand that, when you consider the whole boxing audience (including the casuals and mainstream), more people will be interested in Canelo-Cotto. For that reason, yes, I kinda' agree with Jack that it'll be better for the sport in terms of promotion/hype.

But would I prefer that to happen? No, because I know better. I know that, in the interest of fairness, Trout should be the one getting that shot, and Canelo can't go any longer cherry-picking opponents.

@ Thread starter: Who the hell are you talking about when you say "WE" . Who the hell really wants to see Trout fight Canelo?? The only person saying that Canelo is ducking Trout has to be a Canelo hater. I can't recall anybody being an Austin trout on this site unless they hopped on the bandwagon for the sole person of discrediting another fighter. You could barely find this guy on youtube how is he all of a sudden such a great force to be reckoned with?? It was an akward matchup for Cotto, people make it seem like Cotto got murdered in there. I think the people that discredit a fighter after a loss are the ones ruining boxing. We should learn from UFC fans and not **** on boxers after they lose. Boxing is the only sport where fans discard athletes after a loss, imagine if all the other sports were like boxing??? The ones killing boxing are boxing fans like these.

Fans of boxing want to see Canelo step up and fight the best at his weight class and Trout has just proven himself to be one of them. That is why it is a good match up, also the clash of styles make it an interesting match up.

I'm a fan of boxing and I have no interest whatsoever in seeing Trout fight again. Trout has no fanbase, he's boring. He didn't look impressive in there, he just looked too big for Cotto and just plain and simple frustrating to watch. Boxing is a means of entertainment and Trout isn't entertaining. When Canelo seeks a big money fight it's a problem, but when trout calls out canelo for the exact same thing "MONEY" they say that he wants to prove himself as the best. Why doesn't Trout call out bundrage if he wants to unify so badly?

I think what people fail to realize is that outside of a mandatory a champion can pretty much fight whoever he chooses. I understand the point of the OP thread, but the days of who is deserving are long gone. Now it's about who sells tickets. Boxing is so much more a business now than it ever was and it's only going to get worse. Many things are to blame for it, like the multitude of meaningless titles in each division, too many weight divisions, etc, etc. In a perfect world the best fighters in each divisions would fight, and Andre Ward would leave the states to shut up the butthurt Euro's, lol, but the reality of it all is that this isn't a perfect world and the GBP's and Top Ranks are going to do what's in their best interest financially first and foremost, then what's good for the fighter, and we as fans can either take it or leave it.

Trout, deserves to fight Canelo, but on the other side of the coin GBP knows that A: Cotto would generate A LOT more revenue than Trout and B: Cotto appears to be a safer option. A Canelo loss to Trout takes money out of Oscar's pockets because then it would turn into a "I told you so" about Canelo and would open Canelo up for further debate about how good he really is and the whole being protected bit. Personally, I think Trout beats Canelo as Alvarez hasn't shown me much, but at some point whether it's sooner or later the training wheels are gonna have to come off Canelo..

But you are and do "support" one side over the other, I mean are you seriously trying to deny this?
