Take everything Richard Schaefer says with a gigantic grain of salt. Cotto and Mosley does nothing unless Cotto loses against Margarito. It's a nice bounceback fight and also solves some perhaps unfinished business between Cotto and Mosley. If he wins against Margo, Mosley acomplishes nothing for him. He doesn't have a belt, doesn't present a new name for his resume and most importantly..he's NOT Floyd Mayweather Jr. That's pretty much the long and the short of it.
It's possible. Say DLH-PBF fight is 9/20/08 then Cotto-DLH in 12/20. It's 3 months for training and promotion and DLH could still take a week or 2 off before starting to train for Cotto. So it could happen. But if Cotto-Mosley 2 happens after 9/20 then I'm not sure that we can get Cotto-DLH in December
Didn't Oscar say he promised his wife he'd never fight another PR? Or did he go back on that statement?
It's highly, highly, highly unlikely. Look at how long GBP did the promotion for Mayweather-De La Hoya. They announced the fight in November 2006 a little after Mayweather beat Baldomir. They were doing press tours across the country like 3 months before the fight. De La Hoya likes to fight on the Mexican Holidays in May and September. The last time he fought on a date other than around the two holidays was June 2004, in a fight that was small by DLH standards (Felix Sturm, less than 400k PPVs). And his previous 3 fights before that were near the Holidays.
DLH says a lot of things about whom he won't fight, and then he fights them later on. I'm sure his wife wouldn't mind when he makes like $30-40 million against a Rican.
Well he is a promoter..so lying is one of his strengths. I don't think he'll face Cotto in this current 3 fight plan (which is BS in its own right but that's for another time). I think depending on what happens with Floyd, he'll try to take an easier fight so he can retire with a win under his belt. Basically a fight against JCC Jr or a Mosley rematch or even (and I hope not) a fight with Pac.
I don't think he'll even retire that soon anyway. It's really hard for boxers to step away from the sport, especially fighters like De La Hoya who are so used to the spotlight and huge paydays. I'm accustomed to boxers fighting way too long and until they suck.
Likewise...this whole "three fights and then good bye" thing is just a nice way to have a lil added intrigue to the preceedings. DLH looks like he's going to retire, people pay bundles for the retirement tour...then the same people pay out the ass to see his "comeback" 16 months later. It's tried and true boxing promotional stuff.
Hell yes the way that fight ended it screamed PLEASE 15 ROUNDS. Well they dont do them anymore so we need a rematch. I just wish Mosley would have a tuneup before hand vs someone like Baldomir.
I'd like to see a rematch to see if Mosley figured something out late against Cotto or if Cotto is just a better fighter at this point in their careers. Either way, first fight was very close and there should be a rematch.
The winner of Cotto/Margarito could fight Berto, Clottey, Hlatswayo, or better yet, clean up the super welter division where boxrec amazingly ranks Oscar as #1. I would rather see Mosley fight the quintana/Williams winner or Clottey; although a Mosley/Margarito fight would be interesting.
dude i ****ing hate GBP all they want is money, they want oscar to keep fighting Floyd and Cotto to stay aside any not bother their money making plans. Fighting mosley again would be a great fight regardless but at the same time doesn't do much for Miguel Cotto, Who I'd rather him face younger opposition.
Why would anyone want Cotto-Mosley 2, the pressure should be on Mayweather-Cotto. Golden Boy promotions just want to stall the hype for a Cotto-Mayweather fight because its bad business for De La Hoya's rematch. Golden Boy Promotions have the contract on Mayweathers next few fights. After Cotto fights Margarito, De La Hoya should fight Cotto and let Cotto get mass exposure then promote a big fight between Cotto and Mayweather. It seems like Arum and Cotto are being given a runaround.
Yes that would be the ideal situation but Floyd, Oscar and Scheafer have lost touch with the fans and reality
