http://ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/174315-mares-moreno-targeted-for-oct-13 Schaefer said he has decided on several Olympians from varying countries, both men and women, including those who did not win medals. "We are looking at a handful of fighters, one of them from the United Kingdom, one of them from Mexico, one of them from Puerto Rico and a couple of them from the United States. Our plan is to really create a dream team of Olympians, whether they were medal winners or didn't win medals. I'm not so worried about that. What happens is that sometimes, even when they medal, and they turn pro, they just don't have the style to succeed as a pro," said Schaefer. "Some of them who didn't medal have a better style in the pros. Led by [Golden Boy President] Oscar [De La Hoya] and our matchmakers, we kept a keen eye on the tournament, and looked on whom we felt would fit very well in the pro ranks, and we've identified five or six fighters and we'll pursue them in the coming weeks. We were impressed by the female American and some of the British as well, and we'll see to what extent we'll get involved there."
Yep, think he was the only Mexican boxer :think. And I'm guessing the Puerto Rican is the 19 year old who lost to Lomachenko.
Valdez really impressed me, he's got such an aggressive style. I'd certainly root for him and his body punches are just awesome. I can imagine him being a top-level brawler, but one that could end up being damaged if he stays in the game too long. My guess at the British one was just that, a guess. I don't think Joshua would sign pro just yet, possibly after two years. He's being wise and widening his experience. Agogo does have a good style for the US to watch, but I'm seriously surprised they're after him, even with a gold medal, in America it's all about fan-friendly fighters, and Agogo is fun to watch but he's not a knockout artist or a brawler.
Griffs put a video up of an interview with Schaeffer where he discusses there plan. It sounds like they are trying to create a dream team of olympic boxers to fight on the same cards and build them all up together.
Valdez looked good, so did the Puerto Rican (Sanchez I think?) who fought Lomachenko. I imagine they've been looking at Joshua, although he will likely stay amateur. Of the Americans, I guess Errol Spence would be the obvious pick. Ramirez and Diaz both look good prospects so they should be in with a shout. It's a shame they're not looking at any of the Ukrainians but not at all surprising.
