Dangerous fight for Canelo. Williams is past his peak but he has insane workrate that will be tricky for someone like Canelo, who is often inactive during rounds, to combat. He should win but it'll be a good, interesting fight.
Shocking misstep if it gets made. Williams is not a big name in 2012, the public expects a blowout and he may pull the upset as awkward as he is. Cotto in comparison is a far bigger name, a more predictable quality and a more entertaining fight, much better risk/reward ratio.
Paul Williams? If this fight were 3 or 4 years ago Williams would have easily dominated him but I don't know how much of a chin Williams has left. If Williams still has a chin Alvarez is in for a long hard night and could lose. Alvarez cannot out box Williams and can only win by knocking him out similar to Martinez.
Nice! (If Schaefer is serious) So, Canelo-Williams in September and then Canelo-Cotto in December? And Kirkland, after feasting on a few bums during this period, gets the winner in early to mid 2013?
Canelo would beat Kirkland anyways, but if Kirkland doesn't fight some decent competition in the meantime while Canelo's sharpening his skills against Williams and Cotto, he'll get destroyed.
3 or 4 years ago Canelo was a high school aged kid and Paul was a champion, I'd hope Williams could've dominated him at that point. Today, Williams still leaves himself open to the kind of big shots Canelo loves to set up like he always has. He's not going to beat Alvarez and it wouldn't surprise me if he gets knocked out for his troubles. The judges won't be able to bail him out like they did vs Lara.
great fight. williams would probably open at +350 and be bet down to almost even money by fight time. i still believe the pw that fought winky still exists and that pw would dominate canelo. great fight and for once a legitimate fight for alvarez. .
Woo hoo hoo, this be a fukin war! Williams is still a dangerous opponent, being a southpaw he can expect another clash of heads, wrong fight for Canelo, but with Lara, Kirkland, Quintana, and Williams all being southpaws, Canelo should gain invaluable experience here. Hope he never stops learning from GGG either. Becoming a much better boxer/puncher. Also he does have ko power, but he fights alot smarter now abit more careful which is fine as there will be less mistakes that way. Still, Williams looked slowly getting back into his old form. I'd rather see Williams-Lara II if Pwilly really is getting back to his older form cuz if he is thats bad, bad news for all the 154lbers.
exactly who has canelo "destroyed?" he certainly didnt "destroy" a 40-year-old Mosely who was two years ago "destroyed" by 147 pac and 147 pbf. mosely was nowhere near getting stopped by canelo and anyone that saw the pbf and paq fights knew that both these fighters carried mosely and gave him a free pass.
