Cotto was offered 6.5 million (plus a portion of the PPV) for the Pacquiao rematch and even though his guarantee for the Trout fight was only 1 million, he was projected to make as much 4 million after additional revenue from the license fee, gate, and PPV money from Puerto Rico. The Pacquiao rematch also would have been fought at a catchweight, which he wasn't keen on.

But I agree, I don't think Top Rank really has to match Golden Boy's offer. I think he'll take the Martinez fight for less money than he would make for Canelo, but only if the numbers aren't all that far apart.

According to Arum they offered him 13m. Cotto denied, hard to tell who's telling the truth. But the catchweight thing sounds like excuses from Cotto.

    1. One year earlier he demanded to defend his SWW title at 150 vs Marg, with a 160 rehydration clause
    2. 6 months earlier he taunted Pac into offering 150, since Pac had said he's not going beyond 147

Thats a lot of money if its a legitimate offer. I'd be curious to see if he could get more or atleast close with a Martinez fight.

Schaefer also said that he's fine with Cotto taking on one of the other GBP fighters, so maybe Cotto fights someone like Angulo or Ortiz and keeps himself in position for a Mayweather rematch when Mayweather fights in September. I'd guess a rematch is still the biggest payday out there for Cotto.

If the offer is for real Cotto will take it, no doubt. Thats a lot amount of $.

I think Canelo wins this fight by decision. It would be a close but firm type of fight.

Pac didn't want to move beyond 147, but relented on 150. So they did offer Cotto 150, as he asked for. He then complained about the weight and money, and went on to look like a midget and lose to Trout for peanuts.

This is a good payday for Cotto. I think Oscar and his team is convinced Canelo can get a win here and thats why they can offer so much money. They want to get a good win on Canelo's resume that has a big name.

Cotto doesn't need the dough that much and if Top Ranks offer is anywhere close to the offer he got for Canelo,he ought to take the very winnable fight with Martinez.

Canelo won't be a 152 pound skelton one day before the fight.

    He blows through Cotto easy.

Cotto would do better against Canelo than he would against Maravilla
