    Just want to rewind to a little nugget of commentary 'wisdom' from a few rounds ago...

    "He's eager to perform tonight not just because Kendrick Lamar is here, or because Oscar de La Hoya is here..."

    Um yeah no shit. Any pro boxer whose motivation hinges on what rapper is or isn't sitting ringside...probably shouldn't be a pro boxer to begin with. That sort of fawning celebrity worship signifies a mind too weak & milquetoast-y for the rigors of this sport.

    González had a really good fifth, leaning toward giving it to him with half a minute left.

    @CST80 et tu?

    Oh yeah, he won that one, if not before then cinched in the closing moments.

    Btw this is the only televised bout - or at least the only live televised bout - on the card before the main event.

    If anybody was looking foward to Emilio Sánchez vs. Enrique Bernache, it apparently happened already (probably on the ESPN3 internet stream). In case they show it on delay I'll put spoiler tags on the result:

    Sánchez defeated Bernache by unanimous technical decision midway into the incomplete tenth and final round after Bernache was cut from an incidental headbutt. Scores were 100-91, 99-92, and 97-94 Sánchez

    Robles might have blown his was a bit in the sixth, taking pretty much the whole seventh to recharge. González switching to southpaw and back on the lateral drift, with plenty of jabs fluttering in Robles' face, just plain outworking him.

    10-9 González

    10-9 Robles, blocking most of González's jabs and scoring opportune counter left hooks when he needs to (with some uppercuts strewn in) - barely edging it on quality.

    The commentators are being a little harsh with these expectations, IMO. That's a lot of pressure to put on Robles, that González is a guy he NEEDS to stop here. The only person to ever stop him in 29 bouts has been Zolani Tete, and his other competition fought was hardly all stiffs or anything...
