Hector Tanaraja vs. Héctor Suárez, 8 rounds @ super featherweight

 

Anybody scoring and/or just watching this? I'm engrossed in Maciel vs. Ríos but checking this out between rounds, looks interesting.

 

Tanajara beat Suárez by shutout UD. Scores were 80-72 x3.

Marlen Esparza vs. Laetizia Campana, 8x2" rounds @ flyweight

 

This is the first career 8-rounder for the Mexican-American Olympian, taking a step up in class despite the meager 2-4 pro boxing record of the Frenchwoman in the opposite corner (she's a crossover from Muay Thai kickboxing where she had a lot more experience)

 

This is actually Campana's first venture outside Thailand in her entire combat sports oeuvre - in addition to her MT experience, all six of her pro boxing matches were in Bangkok or Rayong.

Round 1

Campana is flurrying on the backfoot and caught with a right hand stunning her and driving her into the ropes. Esparza is threshing furiously at the body with powerful hooks, lowering her stance to come tanking in, squat and broad-shouldered, roughing Campana up with raw brawn. Campana is already heaving, looking wild-eyed, perhaps hurt downstairs, doing her best to just tie up and survive.

Round 2

Esparza is combining straight right leads and left hooks, forcing Campana backward. Flurries by Campana, ducked. Esparza putting up a turtle shell and shooting off bent knees to plow the stomach with uppercuts. Lashing right hands up top by Esparza. Campana is eating straight volleys and desperately jabbing to create distance to no avail. Campana tries a clinch but Esparza is too strong and simply able to shrug her off.

Campana is about to quit! Reading her body language as she walks to her corner, she is arguing with her coach.

edit: YES I WAS RIGHT! As the audio cuts in her coach is yelling at her, saying "uh-uh. Nope. Sit down. We ain't no quitters. Get back in there. I need that 1-2-3-2..."

 

Little ****ed up, that really isn't a good trainer. Campana is in over her head, and scared & hurt. No part of her wants to fight anymore, and said that multiple times, he really shouldn't bully her into it.

 

Round 3

As soon as they meet in the middle of the ring, Esparza glances at the ref, who apparently witnessed the entire corner interaction. He sees Campana starting to cringe as Esparza simply moves toward her, and he collects her to spin her away from Esparza (who pulls her shots that she was loading up, very aware of the situation), taking matters into his own hands.
