Im becoming a big fan of maidanas and i think hes got a good chance of being a fighter like kats who never becomes elite due to their technical flaws but have enough strength power and heart to stay up there as a gatekeeper to a top 5 spot in his division and will be in some exciting fights.
Robert is going to have a ton of openings. Anyone know how their physical size matches up? If Robert is anything close to Maidanas size, he should beat his ass.
Maidana is a inch taller but their reach is similair, we dont know how guerrero will handle maidana's punches and if he can keep the fight on the outside. I think it will look similair like the morales fight where either guerrero ud's him or loses via tko/ko or close decision.
Which is a recipe for an incredible fight!:good It really can go either way....logic always lies with the boxer over the brawler but when you factor in all the other variables like Robert moving up in weight it makes the outcome less clear.
Great fight, RG has alot to lose in this. (More-so than Maidana) That said, Can't wait hope it goes down.
This year is making up for last. Yes it started slow(Bradley-Alexander and Pacquiao-Mosley ewww) but with fights like Hopkins-Pascal 2 & Darchinyan-Perez that happened recently and with upcoming fights(Alexander-Matthysse, Froch-Johnson this weekend, Pascal-Cloud hopefully and this fight) it's turning out to sound like a great year. Love, love being a boxing fan right now but I love it regardless as I have yt & fight dvds to keep me entertained.
It's unanimous - Get it done! With two decent cards Saturday, Canelo-Rhodes, Alexander-Matthysse, Wlad-Haye, Williams-Lara, Rios-Antillon, Khan-Zab, Maidana-Ghost and Vitali-Adamek it's shaping up to be a decent summer for fights. There are a few more to be made too.
on paper guererro is a nightmare of an opponent for maidana ! Guererro has fast hands is a southpaw and good counterpuncher but can also fight agressive and take the lead if he needs to! but maidana needs only one big shot to change things up and we know he has the will and determination in him to do that even if he gets hurt he will get up again...
The Ghost is an obvious favorite, but one important thing gives Maidana a chance-Guerrero doesn't punch at shoulder-level. It's a very underrated and overlooked technical skill, to punch with the shoulder blocking the chin as you extend and pull the punch back into guard, and it's one that many fighters don't possess. It leaves a huge hole open for someone with good timing and the ability to loop or arch shots to come through. Guerrero is far more skilled, but I don't find it hard at all to imagine Maidana sneaking some to the body and in the mid-rounds finding his mark with an overhand right to make things interesting and uncertain for the Ghost.
I had the same thought. That would look damn good on his resume. People can slag off titles all they want but guys like Guerrero that never blew up, those titles make fighters. Guys like Pacweather can afford to blow them off if they want. They're bigger than, but a third division title would help propel Guerrero into conversations and put money in the bank.
I hope this happens. Guerrero wins this all day long for me. Vastly superior skills to Maidana. Guerrero looked great against Katsidis, despite moving up. People might say he should have had the power to stop him, but Katsidis is tough as nails. He beat the snot out of him, regardless.
damnit. interesting fight, guerrero should be able to handle himself at 140 with his frame, however i was hoping hbo would demand bradley fight maidana
