It means that GBP has the rights to promote this particular fight. They will also pay both fighters (60% going to Lomachenko I believe, 40% Russell). If Loma wins, he takes the title back to Top Rank, if Russell wins, he takes it to GBP. Anyway I assume that Lomachenko is a big favorite here.
Well, I don't know. Russell was originally a mandatory challenger so it doesn't make sense to me either. 50-50 would be the most logical split. It's possible that it's 50-50 actually, I've just heard that it was 60-40 in Loma's favor.
Do you know what date the fight is scheduled for? Thanks for your answer. I need to sit and analyse Gary properly tbh before I make a precise prediction. I'm glad that GBP are promoting the fight tbh, is this fight going to appear on showtime? I'd absolutely love for the showtime commentators to call the fight.
June 21st in LA according to the reports. Honestly I was expecting to see HBO to take this fight, but either way it should be interesting. GBP seem to put a lot of hope in Gary Russell. Hopefully there won't be any controversy here.
WBO has a rule that says if one of the fighters is fighting in his home country and the opponent if from another country the guy with the home field advantage gets the 40% and the road guy gets 60%. Ironically, Russell is actually the higher rated guy of the two as well. Schaefer also said this will be on Showtime and will be on the undercard of an undetemined main event.
Thanks. I didn't know that such a rule existed, it makes sense now. Hopefully that "home field advantage" doesn't turn into something controversial though.
Yeah, its a rule that no one seems to ever hear about, I know I didn't know anything about it. So far both sides seem to be talking like they're all about making the fight and no one is mentioning anything about the cold war, networks, etc. I was skeptical this fight was going to happen even with a purse bid but so far it seems like this fight might actually happen.
Loma better be prepared to fight Russell the ref and the judges. This suddenly just became a far more difficult assignment.
Yes, I was actually expecting Top Rank to pressure Lomachenko to back away from the fight. So far there wasn't any info about it from Top Rank as far as I know, hopefully they don't suddenly come up with something and prevent the fight from happening.
