Ulysse is shelling up as Barroso takes his best shots downstairs, and then spreading his feet out to shoulder width, heel-toeing and creating a little separation, and lining Barroso up for crisp jabs and 1-2s. Ref comes in for a break as they grind in together, and Ulysse lands a dirty foul combo - a sweeping kidney punch with his right, and then a left hook clapped Barroso bang on the nipple, causing him to grimace. Ref decrees it accidental, no deduction. Time in. Ulysse is picking off Barroso's jabs on his left mitt and needling him with quick light rights on the nose. Ulysse effective but not impressive here.

Despite his "KO artist" billing, there are lots more wrinkles to his game and quite a bit more awkward savvy and ring IQ to Barroso than such color-by-numbers guys as Seldin and Claggett - against whom Ulysse was made to look a million bucks in the past.

 

Round 9

Ulysse is getting clipped on either flank as Barroso dives in, barking with each forceful exhalation paired with the impacts. Barroso keeps a high right jab in Ulysse's face, the Canadian often countering past it with a kneading 1-2, but the body shots are piling up as Ulysse retracts his arms or simply remains in a tight high shell waiting for an opening.

Round 10

Ulysse is getting walked down, even as his backfoot counter jab lands high-percentage on Barroso's face. Barroso swarming him, cuffing right hooks over the nape & spine when Ulysse bends over in front of him, and nicking him with hard short hooking body shots at every turn. Ulysse is letting Barroso throw a dozen for every single counter he's mustering up, and his stuff isn't of supreme quality (or even landing all that flush) to be offsetting that, although he is letting his hands go a bit more now.

Round 11

Ulysse is backing into the ropes in second gear, and then quickening his step as Barroso comes banging in behind a soft right hook feint with a big slingshot left. Ulysse is folding his arms up and bending like a sapling tree when Barroso comes bearing down on him with power salvos, riding them, but not countering with much. Ulysse waiting for a perfect moment, picking his spots, but hardly ever going to work. The few right hands thrown are not landing at too high a clip, either. Barroso meanwhile just continues to swarm and punch, a fair share missing or blocked, plenty landing.

Round 12

Ulysse is managing at least to be first as they step together, pushing out a left jab at the face, but not following up as Barroso meets him on the Cerveza Tecate logo with his own right jab sailing harmlessly up as chaff, and then landing hooks on the body, cuffing swipes and chopping blows across the neck when Ulysse doubles over defensively, and shoeshines on the breadbasket. Ulysse tries to time Barroso with the right hand lead, but either just tickles his nose with it or falls short as they circle in close. Ulysse not taking many chances as Barroso jumps all over him again and again. Ulysse with a combo in the final ten seconds but Barroso still lands better.
