I wasn't referring to his ratings. I was referring to the opposition fans perceive as inferior.

I'm already aware of Golovkin's star power.

naw, Andre Dirrell and Carl Froch would both be tough competition for GGG also. I think Bika would give him a tough fight also

Obviously the fans aren't too disappointed with Golovkin's opposition if they're tuning in to watch him fight.
When you said "fans" did you mean to say "contrarian hipsters that always find something to **** on?"

Don't treat a fighter the way you treat other fighters when they are far inferior to this point in time.

The talent may be there, but you should only judge fighters by who they fight; not who they don't fight or why they didn't fight or who I think would beat him or who you think he should fight, etc. etc.

    You judge what actually happens.

And to this point, he has fought 1 top 5 MW and 3 fringe top 10 MW's.

People who bring up "he hasn't fought anybody" are doing so because he is being ranked, valued, and discussed as if he is more proven than many fighters that he clearly is not.

Well, Floyd has generated more revenue per fight than any fighter of his era.

I guess that seals the deal on his greatness.

Best of his era based on that logic, no?

Rigondeaux shouldn't be anywhere close to crawling onto the P4P top ten list according to you, because, well, obviously, the fans don't think he's fighting good opposition if they aren't tuning in to watch him fight.

    ---

Do you not see how flawed your logic is?

Backpedal, get defensive, then try to point out my hypocrisies when I have stated none in this thread... Go for it.

This is the same for any fighter.

There is little consistency among boxing fans sitting behind a computer screen.

But to someone who never ranked those guys or thought as highly of them as others, should they somehow be apologetic? Do they have to give the full credit that the biggest fanboy on Earth gives? I believe people should value wins based on their own opinion but that they should also be able to acknowledge the "general consensus" among fans.

Until he signed to fight Golovkin, Stevens wasn't viewed as a top 10 MW by anyone other than The Ring Magazine at #10.

Until he signed to fight Golovkin, Proksa was viewed as the biggest flop in recent memory for losing a close decision to a relative tomato can with 1 career KO in Kerry Hope.

They signed to fight Golovkin, and all of a sudden they were big time beasts in the eyes of Golovkin's biggest supporters.

IT WORKS BOTH WAYS. There is no consistency and everything in boxing is up to the beholder.

I'm not defending or targeting anyone with this. Just saying that I have and could once again justify why in almost every thread about Golovkin, it is needed to state his lack of top opposition relative to his hype, just as I and many others did with Alvarez and Chavez Jr.

Who the f*ck are you to tell people how they should judge a fighter?:rofl
You do what you want, and we'll do what we want.
Be a self important front runner. We'll watch fighters that we enjoy watching.
If you know who Golovkin has fought then why all the "Who GGG beat?"?

Rigo's performance against a top #3 p4p fighter should have got him fighter of the year last year. I said so on this forum.
I'm not talking about Floyd or Rigo.
I'm talking about some douche crying about Golovkin "dissappointing his fans" because he fights "lackluster opposition".

yea those people... the ones that are always unhappy with something.

When I said fans, I meant the general boxing fans. Not just Golovkin fans.

OK. All I said is that fighters should be judged by who they actually fought and how the fight played out. If you disagree with that, than that is awfully odd of you.

Go ahead and judge fighters based off of how they behave in public or in their personal lives. Discredit Monzon's record entirely... Good for you. You'll have a, well, unique opinion about everything.

As for why I asked to list his victories over top 5 and top 10 ranked opponents, you know exactly why I asked. It was to emphasize how thin his accomplishments are RELATIVE TO THE HYPE HE RECEIVES.

    Top 5 MW- Matthew Macklin

Fringe top 10 MW's- Grzegorz Proksa, Curtis Stevens

    At best, 3 top 10 MW's fought...

Golovkin could turn out to be a HOF'er and an amazing ATG Middleweight legend. He could. But that wouldn't make me any less correct about anything I've ever said which was critical about him... Because as of today, 6/4/2014, you will not find a soul on Earth who has said he has beaten more than 3 top 10 ranked MW's.
