Reported over on the scene that the IBF are letting Sylvester take another voluntary. He is due to face no. 14 ranked by the IBF Medhi Bouadla early next year in Germany. I think Sylvester is bricking it after seeing what Geale did to Karmazin. But its no problem, Geale said after the Karmazin fight that he had been informed by his promoter that Sylvester has 9 months from the Oral fight to accomodate his mandatory or he will be stripped of the title. So when he beats this bum, unless he is gonna fit another voluntary in again fairly soon after it he has to face Geale by next July or be stripped. Geale should take a stay busy but competitive fight in the interim and get ready for Sylvester early next summer.
This is not a bad thing though. If Sylvester get's beat, the fight might be an easier fight for the Grange boys to make for Gealey here in Australia. This could be the upside?
I hope Geale doesnt end up inactive again at this point in his age etc he needs to stay in the ring when he just getting in his prime.
This much is certainly true. The bullshitting-about Grange received from Boxa regarding Geale v Mundine II certainly cost Geale valuable time and momentum. Hope he can get a good keep-busy fight in place, and follow it with Sylvester.
I think Lenny Z is actually gonna be in the same situation as Geale. Heard it reported on a few sites that Vasquez is gonna take another fight before he has to fullfill his mandatory obligation against Zappavigna. Who would of thought it 12 months ago but Zappavigna-Katsidis could be a very real possibility late next year.
I dont think Zappa will go anyware near Katz at the moment, mabey in a couple of years when the Great starts to fade from all the wars his been in
Zappa v Kats............ i don't think so, Kats just went life n death with an ATG and people think Zappa could compete with Kats........please :tired
As I suggested previously, let Geale fight Wood next (at middleweight). He can chase Sylvester afterwards as mandatory. Sure it doesn't do much for legacy or improve his development as a boxer, but from a marketability point of view this is an opportunity to put him with an opponent who has just become Australian media's little darling. I've noticed some posters on ESB just cannot think outside of a hardcore boxing fan mindset, but from a promoter, media, and casual fan mindset this makes perfect economic sense. Sakio Bika has already called out Wood, so his team can see the economc benefit from going from A-class Andre Ward to a C-class lucky fighter.... Id agree wth ya. Outside of Mundine and his stock has considerably fallen, Wood is the best money fight out there for Geale. Geale would expect to beat Wood comfortably and he would i think. Low risk, high reward. Easy to sell to the casuals in Australia because they know who Wood is now after what he did last week. A win over Wood gives Geale the platform he has been looking to get for so long. People would actually really get behind him for the Sylvester fight and hype it up a bit.
