Hi everyone. I'm not too educated on the "British" boxing scene, and was looking for some info on your personal opinions between three interesting middleweights: Daniel Geale, Martin Murray, and Matthew Macklin. I know Geale is Australian and Macklin is Irish, but I felt that the folks on the British part of this forum would know a bit better. What is your personal ranking for these three fighters? Top/Middle/Bottom. Also, why haven't these three fought each other yet?? I refrain from adding Nick Blackwell and Darren Barker because they each have already fought one of these three, whereas fights between Geale, Murray, and Macklin haven't happened yet. But feel free to add them in your rankings too! Always interesting to see... Thanks.
Geale is a good boxer/mover type. A good MW operating at world level but wouldn't have called him top class myself. He's gotten a lot of stick for the Cotto fight but you could see how drained he looked even at the weigh in. I won't hold that against him Macklin is finished really. He was very good but he went into wards too often and has had his time at the top cut short as a result. I thought he beat Sturm actually so that gives an indication of the level he was once at. Now, I don't think he should be near any world title fights again. Golovkin took his soul with that body shot. I've always liked Murray and - perhaps showing my bias - thought he beat Martinez, although it was close either way. He has an excellent chin and is very strong. Quite quick hands but not a great deal of punching power. I think he could well beat Abraham at SMW but at worst it'll be competitive. I'd say currently (even though he isn't at MW anymore) he is the best of the 3
Oh Murray moved up huh...yeah I agree. I think he has a good shot against Abraham. How much naturally bigger is Abraham, though? Thanks for your insight! I'm gonna throw this one out there... What about Andy Lee?
I think Andy Lee is world champion as division is weak, it misses Martinez, Barker, Sturm and Murray, I don't think at this moment those who are at world level in that division excluding GGG are at the same level with the above mentioned fighters were when they were in division. Geale is on the slide like Macklin who is English by the way not Irish.
Murray is actually bigger than Abraham I think. Not sure about natural weight but certainly in height/reach. It's a fairly minor difference mind you. Never used to rate Lee that highly but he's really imrpoved over the last few fights. A worthy champion and his right hand makes him a danger for anyone. That said, i don't think he#s brilliant defensively. I'd certainly favor him against Geale and Macklin, probably Murray too. Before you ask...I think Saunders is really good and if he can make sure he doesn't gass out like he did against CEJ then he's potentially world class. Shame he doesn't hit very hard though
