Very good observation. I agree with you and also wish Geale luck. We may or may not find out about his chin at world level this weekend though. Ipersonally think Sturm is at the start of his decline.
Sally, i made the same argument for the Burrage v Foley fight, the armchair experts like Leon rekon its not a 10 second count, its the Refs 10 count that applies so that means if the ref likes you he can take a whole 60 seconds to count to 10. Farkn stupid isnt it but the so called experts would have you think otherwise.
It's true that anyone can get knocked down but Geale spent years fighting the best amateurs in th world and has been fighting pro for 8 years and his chin has never cost him a fight. Besides I think it's not the sort of fight where anyone is going to get knocked out.
Didn't look like a fighter on the decline against Zbik. Media had that as a 50/50 fight going in. Interesting sidenote is that Sturm brought Magomed Schaburow in for the Zbik fight and was with him for his entire camp for the Geale fight too. Fritz Sdunek will still be in his corner though. Schaburow is the former trainer of Gennady Golovkin. Sturm looked more like the fighter of old against Zbik, initiating attacks rather than sitting back and countering.
I hear what your saying and getting put down by mundine isnt such a bad thing after all he spent years fighting top smw's. But its the other kd's thats worrying just look at some of the blokes who put him down, Daniel Mackinnon 12-3-1 6 ko, Lee oti 7-4 5 ko, Nonoy gonzalez 21-15-1 11 ko, Gary comer 13-5-1 6 ko, these lads are'nt great fighters or big punchers and theres to many knockdowns to just put it down to getting caught with silly shots, Sturm is by far the biggest puncher he's faced and with geales hands down style he could be in for an early night imo
from what ive seen of geales being knocked down i put it down to being off balance more than being genuinely hurt, sometimes daniels otherwise exceptional footwork gets tangled and he catches a shot as he is trying to get away and that momentum knocks him down, that is what i put it down to anyway, maybe im just being optimistic ha
True enough, and even so, it didn't faze him at all. He was straight to his feet and into it like it didn't happen. I tend to think it is actually. Some of these fights were like sparring sessions for Geale, almost as if he was trying to get the rounds in. Proof of that was as the fighters became better, Geale stepped it up and got hit less. All of those fights were also 4 and more years ago, Geale has grown somewhat since then. That's always possible, but I don't think so. Geale wore quite a few of Sylvesters jabs, and they didn't rock him or faze him.
His chin probably cost him the Mundine fight. That knock down was probably the difference in the end.
