Gegard Mousasi is NOT a Top 10 LHW

I would tend to agree; he was certainly a top 185er, but since the move it's a hard argument to make.

 

He's right there, but the 205lb division is stacked with so much talent. I'm giving it thought while I'm typing so don't criticize my order too much. I can say I would put Rua, Machida, Evans, Jon Jones, Belfort, and obviously King Mo ahead of him.

The way Mousasi smoked Babalu deserves some mention.

Rampage has been largely inactive. I'd put Mousasi ahead of Forrest.

Couture and Franklin can be argued higher.

I wouldn't call you crazy if he were in your top 10, but as long as he is close to 10. Top 5 is way too high. Without compiling a list, I'd say he is probably in the top 12 or 13 at the lowest.

 

Jon Jones? He beat Vera and thats it his whole career! Oh wait thats right he is in the UFC so that automatically makes him a top 10'er.

 

The man dominated bonner, O'Brien, Hammil and Vera....these are guys rarely dominated...plus he dominated them while playing there game

 

Name anything these guys did to be in the top ten, after all you have to beat a top ten guy to be IN the top ten right? Isn't that what was said?

 

Unlike some of you UFC haters, I don't give a **** what organization he was in when he defeated who he defeated. Should I take back the credit I gave Mousasi for the way he took out Babalu because Babalu was once in the UFC?

Jones didn't just beat Vera, he dominated him. Jones was also beating the hell out of Matt Hamill before losing by dq because he threw the 12-6 elbows.

I guess those performances shouldn't count because they were in the UFC.

I'll even give you that you can argue that Mousasi ranks above Jones. The Sobral win can be argued to better than the Vera win. I may have been giving Jones a boost because of his physical gifts. Jones is still around the top 10 of the sport's 205lb weight class.

 

I'm just saying the threadstarter says you must beat ranked fighters to be ranked (thats cool I agree) but how can Jones or Vera or Hammil be ranked higher the Gegard if none of them have beaten ranked guys either.

 

Gerard is a bit overrated but I can see him barely cracking the top 10. What shocking about him is his non existent takedown defense. I mean you lay a finger on him he goes down. Basically, he'll have problems with any top wrestlers he faces.

 

205 is to deep now to justify ranking Mousasi in the top 10 IMO. The guys resume at that divison isnt enough you have Babalu and thats basically it.

 

That's because the 205 division is ****ing stacked. If you say he is not top 10 to imply he is not good then that is misleading. 185 to 205 he is legit. His run of Sokoudjou, Babalu, Hunt, Jacare, Manhoef, Kang, Santos and Lombard is sick.

 

Well we can certainly now say "Jake O'Brien is not a top 10 LHW."

 

I conceded Jones earlier in the thread, and I agree that Vera and Hamill have no business being above Mousasi either. I do think that Jones' dominant performances against Vera and Hamill make him worthy of being on, or near, one's top 10 list. Vera and Hamill are not the best of the best, but you are probably approaching the divisions elite level if you can beat them.

 

He's probably borderline. 11, 12, 13, that sort of area.

 

Especially in the cage, which favors wrestlers greatly. They need to change that to the ring, a la Pride/Dream. It's a much more neutral fighting ground.
