Hernandez was a long reigning 2x jr lightweight world titleholder. He beat a faded, but still quite dangerous Azumah Nelson to reclaim his crown and actually passed up the opportunity to win via DQ in order to win a clear decision. Then he rattled off three defenses, two over future titleholders in Alexandrov and Hernandez. He was in decent form, had vastly more experience as a pro, and was the number one guy at the weight at the time. It's quite a good win on paper, and in reality.
Nelson was actually coming off the most definitive win of the Leija series, stopping him in six when he met GH, and that victory followed a resounding stoppage of well regarded Gabriel Ruelas. Nelson was certainly past his best, but he was still legit and still number one at 130lbs when Hernandez defeated him. quite clearly on my card.
Still legit for sure. I think highly enough of him at his peak to still call that a shell given how great some of his peak performances were. It was the most conclusive fight, but I also feel comfortable saying he was essentially Leija level at that point in his career given they put in 40 rounds over 4 fights in the twilight of the Professor's career, with competitive decisions sandwiching both Nelson's KO6 win and his defeat to Genaro. A faded Nelson was just that good, I just wouldn't bet a nickel on Chicanito to beat the best version of him. Still a good win, but still representative that Genaro was a very good fighter who was shy of greatness. Nothing at all to be ashamed of. As I mentioned in my original post, I do rate it as a very good win for Floyd all things considered.
Based on styles, I think Chicanito could outhustle, outmaneuver and outwork 130lb Nelson, who sometimes tended to get a bit economical as he got older. As it was, a Chicanito who came back from having his nose shattered still did enough to win comfortably on my card against a guy who was still a very good scalp even at that advanced stage of his career. The fact that he won even after getting fouled to the point where a DQ was a definite possibility makes the win oven more noteworthy. I don't think he was an all time great, but there aren't that many great 130lb guys that I would pick to win against him based on styles and attributes. Dude was tough to dissuade once he got rolling. If you want to provide me with a list of who you'd pick to beat Chicanito at 130lbs, I'd be happy to debate it...if only to turn another anti Floyd thread into a celebration of Hernandez and his career.
Floyd's biggest wins all have asterisks. Too much controversy around this guy. Marquez Didn't bother making the catchweight of 144; paid out $600,000 for the weight advantage Maidana Paid $1.5 million dollars to Maidana to not wear his preferred gloves Hatton Aided heavily by Joe Cortez and not letting Hatton do t Canelo Catchweight (after saying that he likes to fight guys at their optimal weight) Ortiz Sucker shot KO Mosley Possible fixed fight; Mosley looked apologetic for almost KOing him Pacquiao 5 year duck Used illegal IVs Refused VADA testing Refused $5 million dollar dirty test penalty
More bull**** excuses lmfao!. Excuses are for losers. What's even funnier is you have an excuse for evey pac loss. You're pathetic. Singsurat pac was a kid No hoper pac was a kid Faded em wrong socks Bradley pac was robbed Jmm he was cheated jmm was juiced Pbf pac had a bad shoulder Horn pac was robbed
Singsurat pac was a kid No hoper pac was a kid Faded em wrong socks Bradley pac was robbed Jmm he was cheated jmm was juiced Pbf pac had a bad shoulder Horn pac was robbed Refute mine excuse maker
Btw there are no asterisks next to any of those wins in the record book, pull up his record if you don't believe me. Some of those wins helped pbf win fighter of the decade troll. Those are facts.
Pacquiao-Bradley was a robbery. Hell, Andre Ward told Bradley he should give back the belt. Pacquiao-Roidquez 4. Roidquez hired a PED expert and blew up in size. Pacquiao-Horn was a robbery. You had Pac haters like Teddy Atlas calling it a robbery. Pacquiao-Mayweather — a world class surgeon confirmed and operated on the rotator cuff tear. Floyd used illegal IVs. Your turn, dummy. And please don't use the Floyd passed all tests because of course he did—he used IV fluids to flush his system.
Wrong a close fight doesn't mean robbery dumbass both fights with Bradley and horn were close pac got over in close fights as well pac-jmm 2 & 3 ring a bell? Were those fights robberies to??? Jmm and pbf never failed any drug test those are facts those results stand Pacs shoulder was not the problem in that fight troll it was his inability to deal with the way pbf controlled range and dictated distance on his ass and was the ring general. He used both hands in that fight and never once complained to his corner during the fight and checked healthy on the nsac form. Fighters have surgery after fights all the time that means nothing. Are you going to give wilder a pass since he had surgery on his bicep right after his fight with fury??? **** no you're not. So stop with the excuses the better man in pbf won. Move on!
