Just heard the news on this thread......I cant express how bad this news makes me feel. I dont know the man personally, but he grew up near the area in South Central LA where I grew up. I watched alot of his fights when he was fighting out of the Great Western Forum, and always gave me a smile when he without fail, gave a shoutout to everyone in the South Central area after everyone of his fights....... A really intelligent individual who fully respected the sport he practiced, he knew when his time was up in the ring, and did'nt linger on to take beatings for the sake of a payday. My fondest memory of Chicanito was when he decisioned fading legend Azumah Nelson and took the WBC 130 lbs title from him.....the newly crowned champion is supposed to walk out the ring with the titles....Chicanito was already holding the WBC belt he had just took from Nelson......just as Nelson was about to step out of the ring, Chicanito stopped him, and insisted that he Nelson walk out of the ring strapped with the WBC title belt......and its exactly how it occured as Nelson appreciatively accepted his gesture. ......just an example of just how classy Chicanito Hernandez genuinely is. After boxing, I was glad to see that he took his respect of the sport to the broadcast booth. Jesus I'm torn......it hard to get optimistic when the news is that the cancer is at stage 4....earlier someone mentioned it was near the head/neck. Like most of you all, my prayers will be for "Chicanito" that he beats it!

On January 17, there will be a dinner, autograph signing, and silent auction at the WBC Legends of Boxing Museum in San Bernardino, California. Email This content is protected for reservations. Also the Thompson Promotions fight card on January 30 at the Doubletree Hotel in San Bernardino, California, will be dedicated to Hernandez. Although facing the fight of his life, Genaro kindly took the time to share with Fightnews.com readers: "I would like to say to everyone, whether it be boxers, wrestlers, MMA fighters, to be aware of any little lump anywhere in your body that just doesn't seem to be normal and all of a sudden appears. I had a little lump appear under my right side of the jaw, and not even a week had passed by when all of a sudden three more lumps appeared on my right side of the neck. Please take the time and go get a checkup if it ever appears on anyone. You'll probably save your own life if you do."[/FONT]
Jus' spoke with Genaro. He's clear-headed -- not panicked. Says beginning Dec., he starts chemo and radiation. His doctor told him it's a very rare cancer for an adult: Rhabdomayo Sarcoma
Ask him who his ****** Insurance Company is so can write a letter to the USA Today about them, and embarrass the **** out of them. :fire :fire :fire
