Genaro Hernadez was freakishly tall for a super-featherweight. He stands at 5' 11". He was a massive underdog against Nelson if memory serves me correctly.

De La Hoya, Mosley, and Hernandez, all sparred together in East LA during the early 90's. The fight with De La Hoya was a real neighbourhood battle as Hernandez hailed from East LA as well. That wasn't just a Los Angeles city battle. It ran deep and was personal.

De La Hoya should write him a check. If I had his amount of money I would feel honoured to help out a former foe. I can confirm that the De La Hoya-Hernandez rivalry isn't personal as it was when they fought in 1995 at lightweight. They were friends before they fought, and after.

Hernandez is an excellent commentator and without question one of boxings gentlemen.

His personality and demeanour reminds me very much of Alexis Arguello. They are from the same mould.

Hernandez was accused of being a quitter against De La Hoya. The Hispanic community around Los Angeles gave him a hard time for surrendering at the end of the 6th round. However, the fans never realised the horrific extent of his injury. His nose wasn't just broken, but shattered. Imagine dropping an egg and watching it crack into pieces, well thats what his nose was like after De La Hoya cracked it with an uppercut. I'm pretty sure it was fractured or broken in something like 25 places.

Your saying that Genaro was ill was all I needed on that end, JG. You're a stand-up guy and that goes without saying ...but the WBC isn't exactly synonymous with charity. Do you know that the funds will go where they say they'll go?

Vital concern, S. Sadly, there's no GPS on the funds...that I know of.

Never understood why Genaro was made a 3-1 underdog vs an aging Nelson who had looked faded and slow in his previous fights.

Nelson was still capable in those days, but in Hernandez, he was up against an outstanding freakishly tall and slick 130 pounder, with terrific skills, who danced around the ring, fighting like a tall fighter should fight.

I'm not a betting man unless I see a line that just should'nt be, as I did with Hernandez-Nelson.
I put down $500 and took home $1500 in profit.

.......Its been a long time, but now that he's in need, you damn right Genaro will share in some of that money that I had the fortune of winning.

.......guys, lets own up.....we should all help with what we can.
