When you want to use the word "freak" on someone in a positive (and non-sexual) way, you can use it on someone like Fullmer. Because he was a freakish specimen in the most admirable sense. As far as being built Ford-tough, he hangs with anyone. You've got to love it.

I read somewhere that Fullmer fought the last 4 rounds against Fernandez with a broken arm as well, which is pretty incredible if true and also may explain why he was blocking Fernandez' left hooks with his own left.

Fullmer was teak tough as Fernandez was top shelf in terms of power (just look at what he did to Jose Torres) and Fullmer took it cleanly and survived.

Just had a look and it was a fractured elbow suffered suffered in the 14th round about the time Fernadez started teeing off on him.

****ing tough effort to get through that.:bbb

Gotta love Fullmer's 'jab' dude was a hard *******.

Fernandez could seriously bang and has to be one of the biggest Middle's i've seen. IIRC Tiger's left appeared to be much more damaging against Fullmer.

I believe Fullmer sustained a fractured elbow in this fight.
Fullmer was not immune to all left hooks, Lausse had him down.
