terrific fight. Probably lean towards Mean Gene in a very close decision. Not pretty, I think Fullmer forces him to the ropes.Thing with these type matches from years past, is there definately is a set of rematches. And we, the boxing fans get all that enjoyment.

Really tough fight to call, prime 1957 Gene Fullmer vs prime 1974 Rodrigo Valdes. In 1957 Gene floored and defeated Sugar Ray Robinson by unanimous 15 round decision. On May 25 1974, in Monte Carlo, Monaco, Valdes stopped Bad Bennie Briscoe with a thunderous right hand to the jaw, in round 7. Valdes laid claim to the WBC World Middleweight Title, stripped from Carlos Monzon, for refusing to defend against Rodrigo, who was mandatory challenger. This fight would turn into a bloody bout, both had a propensity to cut. Gene's mauling style would cause Valdes problems early on. Rocky Valdes would take advise from trainer Gil Clancy to set up his left jab on the onrushing Fullmer, to set up his wicked right hand. After a shaky start, Valdes lands his right hand on Gene's jaw causing unconsciousness in round 7, for the full 10 count. Both fighters suffer cuts over both eyebrows.

Valdez everyday, all day, except the days it is fought in Utah.

He is so much better than Fullmer on almost every level, Don't get me wrong. It's a fun fight. Gene had staying power, not a hard hitter, not dynamic but tough as nails and rough as a bronco.

    Rodrigo KO11 Gene

Tough fight,,choosing either man isn't a bad selection. Can Fulmer take what's thrown at him round after round or can he grind Valdez down. Fulmer might win , but I think Valdez is the betting favorite for sure
