Luis Rodriguez had an impressive record against some great middleweights like Holly Mims,George Benton,Rubin Carter,Joey Giambra etc. He came within a whisker of taking the title from Benvenuti and always gave Emile Griffith a run for his money whenevr they fought. Could Fullmer best him if they had clashed?

The best Gene Fullmer beats Rodriquez by SD decision in a very
    rough fight.

I haven't seen enough footage of Rodriguez to comment too much on this...but what I understand Luis was amazingly tough and slick...I guess that he frustrated Rubin Carter so much due to his in ability to hit him...He attempted to throw him out of the ring! Rodriguez has just an incredible record...it's very possible that he has the toughness, and the legs to outpoint Fullmer...But even though Fullmer never faced a mobile fighter such as Rodriguez, it seemed Fullmer was always capable of making his opposition fight his kind of fight...This is interesting. I look forward to the opinons.

Good post DFW...my thoughts too....I saw Fullmer and Rodriquez a lot on Television "back when", and Fulmer always somehow beat the other guy I was supporting by making it ugly.
