Considering how well Vito Antuofermo did in the first Hagler fight, I think Fullmer has a very good chance of winning this one. Gene was a much tougher and stronger fighter than Vito plus he could also box effectively when he had to although it certainly wasn't as classy to watch as a Robinson or Ali. Fullmer by decision in a tough fight.

These are two of my favorite middleweights. At another website Ron Lipton stated that Hagler considered Fullmer to be Antufermo x2....I think that Gene Fullmer was one rough, strong and ....yes....great middleweight! Story goes Marv jensen brought Fullmer to NY to have teddy brenner look at him...." He's got two left feet" brenner said...."Go home to Utah". Fullmer did get his chance evetually.... I think Fullmer's strength, unpredictability, and aggressivness, makes him hard to beat. But in marvelous Marvin Hagler, he would be facing one of the very best....

Gene definately had the kind of style that would have given Marv something to think about, as he could both box and brawl depending on who he was fighting. Gene was certainly good enough to get the better of Marvin in a series of fights, and I actually believe his best bet would be to box Hagler much the same way as he did against Basilio first time around.

Hagler was more of a counter-puncher by nature who could box very well off the backfoot, although like Gene he knew when to force the issue and pressure his opponent which he could do quite well. Hagler was the better fighter in my opinion, but Fullmer was a great fighter in his own right as well, and even if he lost he damn well would have made Marvin know he was in a fight.

Hagler by decision, but Fullmer would beat him at least once in a three fight series.

Hagler would be too much for him, too sharp. This is another Hagler-Sibson matchup. Hagler in 6. :good

Hagler slices Gene up and stops him in eight in a rough and tumble affair. Gene was tough as they come and physically strong but Marvin Marvin was just too good for him period.

Fullmer was never stopped on cuts in his entire career... as such I seriously doubt that Hagler will be the first one to pull the trick.

The over glorification of Hagler continues, whatever way you look at it Hagler would struggle with Fullmer. Look what a awkwark pressure fighter like Auntofermo did, he was giving him fits and Fullmer is by far more versatile and a more more accurate puncher than Auntofermo

I was actually thinking along the same lines, especially after seeing Raging Bull's truly excellent little post.

i Think This Would Be A Good One. Fullmer Tends To Be Underrated And Perhaps Hagler A Touch Overrated. In Any Case, They Were Both Excellent Middleweight Champs.

my Pick Would Be Fullmer. He Was Stronger And Had A Style That Would Take Hagler Off His Game. I Want To Make It Clear That Hagler Was Very Strong It's Just That Fullmer Was Ox Strong.

Hagler wears him down to a late stoppage.
