Never thought about it like that. But Patterson looked perfect against Moore. Fast hands and feet, excellent defense and enough punching power to take out most sub 200 pounders.
I would just add that the Tunney who defeated Dempsey was a much better fighter than the Tunney who lost to the swarming Greb. By the time their series ended, Gene was Harry's master. Interesting that you mention Greb and Patterson in the same post. Are you implying that the young Patterson had a swarming style, albeit much more controlled and conventional than Greb's, which would create problems to Gene similar to those he experienced against Greb in their early fights?
