Then you realize Jimmy Young was 6'2 220. Why would you think he punches harder? Because your mom dropped you on your head as a child? The point is Foreman was was taller and out weighed Tunney by 50 pounds and was a real heavyweight and Tunney was a light heavyweight and your other white hero Rocky Marciano would be a blown up cruiser weight if he fought today. Still so amusing to see white people living in their fantasy world where a 170 pound white fighter could beat 230 plus pound black fighter.
Touching story. Nobody asked you who you liked. I told you he wasn't a heavyweight. So if you want to compare him to other 175 pounds then go for it. But stop comparing 170 to 180 pound fighters like Marciano and Tunney against modern heavyweights. That is all I am saying.
Lol Tunney weighed 175 pounds most of his career you ******ed ass and eventually bulked up to 189 pounds late in his career. Out of his 85 bouts only 8 or so he weighed over 180. He was 175 pounds or less in the others. But based on that Young was 235 because one time late in his career he weighed that amount, Tunney was a master boxer? Lol get the hell out of here. He was considered skilled in a era where most people didn't even throw jabs so that isn't saying much. Weight isn't a factor? So based on that logic Bob Foster could knocked out Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko (Because he was more skilled). Now on that note I have to put your dumb ass on ignore. Anybody who keeps repeating the same **** over and over again that weight classes don't matter doesn't deserve to type to me. Apparently Manny Pac can beat Anthony Joshua. You know because Manny is really fast at 140 pounds. Weight doesn't play a factor. God you people are so stupid.
You have no idea what you are talking about. Tunney won the hwt championship as a 190 pound fighter. He was and is regarded as one of the greatest boxers ever in boxing history. Young was a contender for a short period and never won the championship. Young was slick but not great. Tunney as a boxer rates with the best of the best. Boxing 101 but you could never pass that course!
At Hvy his fame came against an old Dempsey yet he beat him in such a way that you could see him outboxing many other punchers in history, so placing him is so hard. You look at those photos and he has the body of a puncher yet he is so fast and skillful at distance and so on target. I think he and Louis would have been a great great fight.
That's it. Let out that sublimated disappointment and repressed anger. I would be angry, too. I would be disappointed, too. Breathe. Deeply. Now push. There, that's better. Isn't it?
So people think Young win because he was 6'2 rather than 6'0? The extra 2 inches of height did not win him the fight. If people are convinced the extra 10 pounds of weight win him the fight then we can let Tunney attend a gym in his training session and add some weight. Me personally think Young won because he stayed on the back foot and was able to stay on the outside for the full fight. A strategy Tunney himself used against Dempsey. If Tunney fought Foreman the same night Young did, I've no doubt he wins. As would Johnson, Byrd, Walcott and any other defensive minded boxer.
I think Gene is underrated. He was one of, if not the first "intelligent" boxer who studied his opponents like he was preparing for an exam. A department that he is typically underrated in is his punching power. He had 65 wins (48 kos) and Dempsey himself said he was surprised by Tunney's power. He wasn't a particularly big hitter but he could have a fighter in trouble if they started to get sloppy. I'm not going to put him in my top 10 at heavyweight but he might get into my top 15.
