Some Good articles here. This one has some very early points losses to a figther named Green. Though these may be better described as amateur fights, i am not sure. http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/art...2|||l-month=01|||l-year=1927|||sortby=dateAsc http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/art...2|||l-month=01|||l-year=1927|||sortby=dateAsc http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/art...2|||l-month=01|||l-year=1927|||sortby=dateAsc http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/art...2|||l-month=01|||l-year=1927|||sortby=dateAsc
this is a good won. It talks about Tunney Weinert and the Tunney Loughran fight, which tunney seems to claim as a win, with a knock down early and i think he says it is the seventh that he has loughran in trouble as well. http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/art...=97|||l-decade=192|||l-year=1927|||l-month=02 And here is a really good version of Tunneys version of the second greb fight. He certainly seems a lot surer than others on here that he won the last 4 of 5 fights with greb. http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/art...=97|||l-decade=192|||l-year=1927|||l-month=02
this one is the first Greb fight that Tunney lost. http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/art...=97|||l-decade=192|||l-year=1927|||l-month=02
here is another Greb fight, as well as a fight with Ermino Spalla, who is one of the many forgotten fighters of the era. http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/art...=97|||l-decade=192|||l-year=1927|||l-month=02 This one covers the Carpentier fight where tunney was weight drained. http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/art...2|||l-month=03|||l-year=1927|||sortby=dateAsc And this one covers the last Greb fight among others. Tunney indicates he could have stopped Greb in this one. http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/art...2|||l-month=03|||l-year=1927|||sortby=dateAsc
I am not sure the Wills fans are going to like Tunneys description of the Wills situation here. http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/art...2|||l-month=03|||l-year=1927|||sortby=dateAsc and here is the training for Dempsey. http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/art...2|||l-month=03|||l-year=1927|||sortby=dateAsc And here is Genes account of the Tunney fight http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/art...2|||l-month=03|||l-year=1927|||sortby=dateAsc
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/art...=97|||l-decade=192|||l-year=1927|||l-month=04 And here is Gene tunneys last article where he talks about what he shall do as champion. All in all, i think his reign was an honorable one, even if it may have relied on perfect timing. Gene may have been quite a bit better than often given credit for.
