How's Tunney of the Dempsey fight s do against Frazier in Manila .Frazier still good enough to push Ali to his limits , Tunney at his heavyweight Best .?
I'm a very big fan of all 3 fighters. That being said Dempsey just wasn't able to cope with a guy like Tunney anymore. Tunney had the legs the speed and Dempsey aged fast. With Frazier Tunneys going against a guy that had alot of fire and drive that night. Tunney looks good for a round maybe 2 then Frazier starts chopping that ring in smaller and smaller pieces. As great as Tunney was he doesn't survive once Joe starts smoking and getting him against the ropes. It sometimes takes Joe a little time to warm up and combine that with Tunneys legs so I'll say Joe starts laying it on him against the ropes by the 6th and Tunney doesn't see the 9th.
I agree entirely. The only problem I see for Smoke is that his fury at Ali in Manila made him almost superhuman. W/out that, is he as tough in 1975? I
Tunney was a master boxer with great movement, that's the type of fighter Frazier excelled in beating. I' give tunney until round 7 and then Frazier is putting him down for a good minute. Frazier was too powerful and too aggressive for tunney.
I'm basing it on the Frazier of that night. ..Regardless any type of boxer in the style of Tunney is gonna catch hell with Joe. You need serious power when facing Joe and that would only be part of the arsenal you need to bring to the table.
You've hit the nail on the Head there. It was very , very personal with Joe In Manila .As u state ,that gave Frazier a big motivation i n there .Basically if Joe had died beating Ali that night he'd have died happy!. So ,question is ,if we put Tunney i n there would he work up such a anger and energy? Im of the opinion that Gene starts out fast , gets in front of Joe on the cards and keeps that way .He'd mark up Joe's face and have him half blind by the tenth .It would resemble calaz v Lacey in parts ,with Tunney lookin better as the fight progressed. Not a walk in the park for Gene.. But if he fight s to his game plan he wins a decision over a game ,brave but battered Frazier .
Frazier tracks him down and exterminates him. Although, Tunney may do some good work up until the end.
Tunney could certainly move well but he could not do the damage to Frazier that caused the loss that Ali did
Joe hits Tunney with a left (check?) hook and puts Tunney's head in a orbit around the earth. Upon re-entry into the earths' atmosphere the fiery head can be seen throughout the western hemisphere.
