Prime Gene versus the version of Archie that Marciano faced? 15rds.

I've got Tunney by clear decision.
    Whom do you like?

I favor Gene to do a number on him .. the speed would be too much.

I agree at that stage of Archie's career fleet- footed boxers were not what he was looking for.

At that stage of Archie’s career the mongoose was bagging the greatest wins he ever had. Two lightheavyweight champions, middleweight champion, #1 heavyweight contender and #2 heavyweight contender.

If he beat Marciano Moore would have made history having beaten the current undisputed middleweight champ in his previous bout.

Knocking out Harold Johnson was among Archie Moores best wins ever. Charles lost to Johnson and years later so did Eddie Machen.

Agreed but Moore was destroyed by Patterson a few months latter and it was all about speed ... I see Gene taking I'm apart at that stage ..

Yes it was 11 fights and 13 months later (with a court case thrown in for good measure) between losing to Marciano and meeting Paterson.

The Moore of the Patterson fight would lose to Tunney I think.

Gene would box circles around Moore .Tunney by decision ,maybe even dropping Archie once or twice along the way .

Any of those remotely like Tunney? Johnson was a patient[too patient,] counterpuncher.Olson was an average middle champ. Maxim was a pedestrian boxer whose sole assets were a good jab and chin.

Are you saying the Moore of the Marciano fight beats Tunney?

Archie would be a step behind Gene all night. Tunney by comfortable UD or by stoppage if Archie went for broke.

Gene would have hit Archie hard and often, would have been way too fast and sharp for him, and would probably have out countered him as well at times. The cumulative punishment would have ganged up on Archie eventually, well before the "championship" rounds, and IMO, Arch would have been down at least once and would have been ripe for the picking and if Tunney were in the mood, he would have stopped the old Mongoose.

I’m saying Moore of the Marciano fight was a different animal than the Moore of the Patterson fight. Because they were.

I’m going to sit on the fence for the actual result of a fantasy fight between Tunney and the version of Moore who was scoring his best wins that Rocky fought. It’s a very good fight.

Like 25 year old Harold Johnson whom he knocked out?

Not a few months later...15 months later.

Moore looked marvelous knocking out an all time great boxer, Harold Johnson, in 1954. Johnson had speed too.

I don’t think Tunney has this one in the bag. Moore was a master at slipping the jab, and he was the bigger puncher than Tunney.
