The Marine against the Blacksmith, modern gloves which actually may suit Fitz as he required extra wraps for his damaged hands. in several fights. I'm picking Tunney by decision, that jab and mobility seal it for me.

Fitz had to have been a marvel. Because there is no great film of Fitz and tons of it of Tunney the natural tendency would be to favor Gene.

Loved Tunney's ability at finding openings, not to mention the aforementioned mobility. I like Gene on about a 10th round stoppage.

Tunney. Tough...fast...good boxer...one of the smartest men to ever set foot in the ring.

Corbett had a clear edge over Fitz for most of their go and Jim wasn't as good a mover or puncher and Gene. Fitz nails Gene a few times and maybe rocks him but Tunney is in charge of most rounds for a clear dec. win.

This true, I believe. Tunney was a great fighter...he looked modern, as in today,...back in the 20's.

    Jack McAuliffe picked Tunney.

His reasoning was that Tunney was more durable than Corbett, and had more power, and he thought that these factors would change the outcome.

I would also add Tunney fought smarter. I like Tunney via UD. Fitz wouldn't catch up to him with his feet set enough to land often enough.

I also think Tunney would beat some more famous heavies named Louis, and Marciano, but that's another thread!

Having said that, Tunney was generally a lot less elusive than Corbett.

The style that he used against Dempsey, is not his usual style.

Tunney by UD but Fitz is dangerous every minute he's in there!

Tunney hit significantly harder than Corbett, with over double his ko percentage ,and he was also more durable.

    This is not in dispute.

I do have to wonder if he might have been emboldened to go toe to toe with Fitzsimmons however.

If he does then he might just come unstuck.
