Gene Tunney was a great boxer. Ahead of his time. but 190 lb. Holyfield was better than OLD Dempsey, who dropped Tunney with an exquisite combination.

Please don’t be like that, that’s stupid. Tunney is a far better boxer than Holyfield for pure skill and at 190lbs a green Holyfield with basically volume going for him? GT by UD most likely, I have always thought Archie Moore, James Toney and Gene Tunney beat CW Holy… Also let’s not be silly I don’t think a heavyweight champion is “scared” of anybody was he a bigot and racist man? Yes but not “scared” of black men lol.

    Was 1987 Holyfield really "green"?

I wouldn’t say “ahead of his time” where are his skills common today? He wasn’t a fish coming out of the water to walk, good fighters have existed in all eras all the way up until the 2000s we had horrid looking (key word looking) fighters like Manuel Medina, swap Medina to black and white and Louis in HD colour… good complete skills are uncommon in basically every era, punching properly is too.

Holyfield is physically too much for Tunney. Tunney not strong enough to hurt him and not fast enough to avoid him. Evander over takes him in 6 round stoppage.

Tunney is slick enough to take a decision...this thread needs a dislike button for comments.
