There is so little footage of Burley to judge him. Why are you so high on him, but so low on most fighters from first half of 20th century?
Ward is an amateur in fouling compared to the unconquerable Greb. Tunney crushes Ward. I with confidence and arrogance put Tunney in the top 9 Heavyweight s ever & pick him over Charles as the greatest lt-heavyweight who ever live.
Physically there's not much between them, as Ward likely would be comfortable around 185, if he doesn't have to make weight. Tunney does have a 5 inch reach advantage, which may be the deciding factor here. Ward is very smart, and knows how to handle himself, so I don't se how he will be "crushed" - though I'll probably have to go with Tunney on points.
Tunney would take a close but clear decision. The older rule sets would actually favour and help Ward, the 'modern' fighter, with his in fighting technique and strategy, which would be needed to stifle Tunney here.
The footage of him available shows elite use of head movement, the traps he sets, slipping punches, footwork, things like half steps, lateral movement, distance, angles, jab, counter punching. Alongside this there's contempary opinions that he was the best. Highly
