Over 15 rounds both at heavyweight. Personal I Favor Tunney which may be the unpopular choice but Tunney had the Endurance, Speed, Power and movement to outbox Holyfield in a close UD.
Holyfield beat the speed demon Dokes, the blisteringly fast bruiser Tyson, as well as the nimble technician Tillis. Tunney isn't bringing much Holyfield hasn't seen whether you re talking about foot or hand speed. Tunney is not knocking out Holyfield even with brass knuckles. Holyfield is plenty skilled enough and experienced enough to match ring wits with Tunney. Tunney had an unbelievably thin resume at HW having drawn the color line and didn't fight very many decent athletic ones even by his era's standards. Holyfield would also be enjoying a decent size and strength advantage as well. Not sure what Tunney could really do to win here. I'd say Holyfield TKO round 7-9 or has to settle for an ugly decision after chasing Tunney around all night.
Tunney was a fine fighter, great boxer, and mover ,with underated power, and he had a top boxing brain.I just prefer Evander in this matchup.
Gut reaction is that Tunney is in trouble here. He'd have to stick and move and box off the backfoot in order to have a chance, in my opinion. Taking it to Holyfield is going to see him get the roadkill treatment.
I think that Holyfield would beat him, probably by late stoppage but we shouldn't underestimate Tunney. He'd be the best boxer Evander ever faced, with plenty of speed and excellent fundamentals.
Id favor Holyfiield, but id also like to give Tunney some of the "help" Holyfield had over his career to even this out.
Tunney all day. Faster, more skilled and very underrated punching power. He would outbox Holyfield for 15 rounds. Not an easy fight by any means.
