I agree with this. Tunney might lose but he frustrates the hell out of George in the process.

Look at the men George lost to. Does Tunney stand a worse chance than the men who gave him problems?

Peralta, a small heavyweight who some people dismiss as being an over-stuffed light heavyweight, gave Foreman two competitive fights.

Foreman was green, 21 & 22 yrs old with 15 & 27 fights in the Peralta matches, he was visibly a different fighter at this time and was still maturing

Was foreman in his prime in 1970 and 1971? Or maybe a green boy? How many fights had Peralta at that time? 82-6 maybe? Who won the fight both times?
Peralta weighed 197 pounds... If i am not wrong the lhw límit is 175 pounds.. So what is your point here? That foreman would smash tunney like an insect? Yes i agree

Somehow Foreman pulls out the stoppage. But Gene Tunney was a better fighter p4p IMO.

Initially I immediately jumped to Foreman then I remembered his two fights with Peralta (ex lhw nowhere near as good as Tunney), Young (not much bigger than tunney),Holyfield, and Levi Forte and I could see Tunney giving Foreman problems. Tunney had a great chin, great wheels, and was always in top condition. You could make a case that smaller guys gave Foreman more problems than big guys.

Just like he smashed Peralta? Dont be silly. And yes Peralta was a lhw. He was overweight at hw. He hated to train which is why he often straddled 175/180. Like Tunney he stood 6' and 77" his reach was only one inch longer than Tunneys and in Tunneys most complete filmed performance and final fight he weighed 192 only 4 and 5 pounds less than Peralta (who never saw the day he was conditioned like Tunney) when he fought Foreman. Combine that with the fact that Tunney was at least a class or two above gregorio and you can easily make a case for him being competetive with Foreman. Smashed? I think not.

Tunney can't pull off what Young did because Tunney's smaller and carries his hands low. He's going to get hit by someone who outreaches him so much.

You are a little dumb... The point is that Peralta did not weigh 175 pounds when he fought foreman and george was green like hell...( the extra weight help you taking shots and your strength against a bigger man) And still he won and lasted the 10 rounds. It just proves that a prime more experienced foreman would smash any lhw ever.

I love how Foreman nuthuggers cant ever seem to pick when george was prime. They would have us believe that he was prime for about 3 fights. Lol. Because god forbid anyone ever beat Foreman or make him look human in his prime...

Yeah, jimmy young and peralta, neither of whom were as good as Tunney in any department, make foreman look decidedly vulnerable to smaller boxers but a guy who was better in every way couldnt. Lol. Hed get smashed...

At 192 Tunney was lean, strong, and fast and could have easily duplicated what the lesser peralta did against foreman twice, and what young did as well. Its not like Young was immensely strong or hard hitting at 213 and lets not forget he had weighed in the 180s earlier in his career and was soft bodied in the 200s so its not like he was just naturally huge. He was by any stretch a small hw for the era.
