I think this is a very competitive fight .. You know Gene would be in terrific shape but Jerry was not always .. they are pretty even in size ... Jerry fought much better heavyweights .. Tunney is really speculation at heavyweight . He fought a badly faded Dempsey twice and journeyman Hard Rock and many here bestow him as a proven all time heavyweight great .. I don't but do know he was a very fast, smart, well conditioned, pretty tough guy who would be favored to outbox Quarry but this could be a decent fight .. I definitely think a prime Quarry was better than the Dempsey Tunney fought ...

Jerry was a very good heavyweight, but Gene was, perhaps, the greatest ever. Gene would easily beat him, and this is coming from a Quarry fan.

Cobra, the Calif. sustem can be funny looking at it. When i first saw scores like 6-3, I immediately thought it was in rounds with them ignoring the even round until educating myself on 1 point for a round, an additional point if there was a knockdown (2-0 for the round) and no points for the even round. A Calif. friend of mine said it best however. He said it's just like the 10 point must system used today only less math. Prior to this sytem, Calif. was using something called the Australian 11 point system. And I have no idea what that was. Anyways, I recently sat down and scored both Patterson-Quarry fights using the Calif. system and had it 6-5 Patterson in the first fight and 7-5 Quarry for the second. Close fights which of course are debatable. Regarding Tunney-Quarry, I think Gene's too smart to get into an infighting contest with Quarry and far too versatile for Jerry. I think he would box to a comfortable decision. Jerry was a counter-puncher with a good jaw, which is the bane of every big puncher. This is why he thrived on beating up those big ponerdous punchers like Lyle, Shavers and Foster. Again, Gene over 15.

Quarry did very well in fights where he controlled the action. If a fight was not going his way he tended to become frustrated and fade. Tunney would stick and move, and not be lured to the ropes where Jerry liked to trade. JQ had trouble with slick boxers who moved a lot. I believe Tunney would frustrate Quarry plenty on the way to a wide decision or late round stoppage.

Patterson had quick hands but he liked to brawl. Remember Meldrick Taylor? Patterson was also down more times than any other HW Champ, 20 times. Patterson was stopped vs. Johansson (KOby3), but he also stopped Johansson twice (KO5 and KO6). He was stopped by Liston twice (LKOby1 x2). He was stopped by Ali twice (LKOby12 and LKOby7). Johansson dropped him 9 times in their 3 fights. Quarry put him down 3 times in their 2 fights but Patterson also dropped him.

Tunney was a very good technical fighter with good speed and footwork. He could also take a good punch. He is one of only 3 HW Champs who were never stopped, Marciano and Bowe are the other 2.

    I'll take Tunney by decision.

I wouldn't rule out a late round stoppage on cuts though.

Web protected??? Hookie is my fvcking name dude. I live in Chambersburg, PA... ask somebody who Hookie is when you get here. I'm not hard to find, it's a small town. Anyway, this is all lame because you know and I know that our paths will never cross. You're probably some mouthy teenager. Grow up dude! People aren't always going to agree with you... especially about Jerry Quarry. Quarry was actually a very good fighter but I can't stand delusional fvcks like you.
