Joe had a hard time with Walcott in that fight because he had never seen anything quite like him. Tunney was a great ring technician but not a tricky fighter like Walcott. Walcott wasn't so hard because of his movement around the ring more like his unorthodox style and feints. Tunney would have chance at beating any version of Louis. Power, a great chin, great footwork, speed. Tunney has the credentials to beat anyone imo.
Joe was just back from WW2 and had 2 fights before he fought Walcott. (Old Conn and Tami Mauriello) However Joe had kept in shape during WW2 fighting exhibitions. 15 Rounds is a long time for Tunney to survive against Louis. Probably, fight even going into the 14th rd, and Louis wins by TKO.

Not even when Walcott was his sparring partner?[/quote] Walcott had gotten a lot better since his time as a sparring partner. Definitely not the same fighter.
