This is child abuse. Larry would beat him like a drum. This all depends on when Larry wants to let up on this racist cracker.
Both great fighters. Holmes got to 48-0 before he lost and Gene retired at 65-1. Thing is with similar styles I have to go with the great fighter that has the 3 inch height advantage and the 23lb weight advantage. (Holmes Cooney / Gene Dempsey weights) Holmes by Tko round 9
Superior skills? You’d need to try very hard to convince me that Larry Holmes was a better boxer than Gene Tunney and it’d be impossible to convince me he was THAT much better lol. 20lbs of Muscle? 20lbs of weight, not that it makes a difference but Holmes ain’t exactly Mr Muscles. Weight be damned anyway… Conn fought the much more dangerous, smarter Joe Louis did well enough to be recalled in legend… I’m positive Gene doesn’t get taken out early lol he’s as good as Conn in my eyes and Holmes ain’t as good as Louis.
I don't think it's the size difference because I don't think it's that big a deal. Holmes is just better. He would punish Gene with that jab that Gene would need to match for him to survive and he can't. Holmes by TKO
I could see Tunney taking a decision off Holmes. Just like Spinks I see him taking away Larry's jab and controlling the fight.
1. Spinks was much bigger than Tunney. 2. Holmes was hardly in his prime against Spinks either time out.
Spinks only weighed 170 pounds against David Sears the same year he upset Larry Holmes. I'm not saying Tunney beats Holmes but I find it quite ridiculous that you suggested Tunney doesn't last a single round vs Holmes which is ludicrous. A more realistic scenario is that Tunney would give Holmes some issues with his movement and boxing skills with Holmes having some issues landing his jab consistently until Holmes eventually stops him between 8-10 rounds.
How was Spinks much bigger? I've met Spinks before and he's definitely not almost 6'3" as he was often listed. He's about 6'1", which gives him an inch on Tunney in height and they have about the same reach, so at most Spinks is slightly taller. Also, although Holmes was past his best Spinks was also, since his legs even in 85' weren't as good as they were 2-3 years before. That said even a prime Holmes wouldn't have an easy time beating Spinks, since Spinks had arguably a better jab, had quick hands, excellent glove control, and knew how to use the ring. Spinks was a huge step up in competition compared to guys like Mike Weaver, Smith, Berbick, Cooney, Cobb, Bey, and Williams, who were all tough, but also green.
Holmes’ pear dumpling body didn’t contain twenty ounces of muscle. He couldn’t “quickly take out” fighters a career’s worth of lesser men. I expect him to win but this is nonsense.
Holmes fought in colour though, & that counts for a lot more than comparatively minor issues like getting turnbuckled by Renaldo Snipes or losing your crown to your own personal cherry pick in Spinks.
It’s just the reverse. Holmes’ size gets him home against a fighter who is, by a small yet clear margin, his superior.
