Tunney by a unanimous 15 round decision, 9-6 in rounds. Tunney refuses to be sidetracked into a slugging match and remains disciplined in outboxing Mr. Dokes pretty much by the book.

Tunney UD or late TKO Tunney had so many ways to beat you. His footwork alone gave him the ability to adjust on the fly and control the ring which he would do in this fight.

Tunney may win by decision, but if Dokes gets him early, it over.

BIG DEE HERE= Tunney by UD or late rd stoppage after beating Dokes half to death. Coetzee used Dokes for a punching bag so I think Gene Tunney would
    do worse to him.

just curious for those picking tunney.......

    1. what fighter did tunney ever face of dokes size?

    2. What makes you think with tunneys style he can dominate a talented big heavyweight?

    3. What makes you think tunneys chin can hold up against a 220lb puncher?

What if Dokes doesn't enter the ring vs Tunney on cocaine, as he did vs Coetzee?

A inshape Dokes with his head screwed on was sure a prospect. Fast hands, good power, sound technique and a good chin. I think he'd pinch four or so rounds across fifteen, but would ultimately be outboxed by the fleetfooted Tunney.

An in shape focused 215-220lb Dokes would eventually catch up to and flat out KO Tunney somewhere around the 10th round. Tunney's foot speed and ring generalship would give Dokes some trouble early but it would only delay the inevitable. An old rusty Dempsey eventually cut Gene and almost finished him but his legs were gone. A young strong fast Dokes would'nt have that problem.

Tunney would outbox Dokes, who despite his talent, had stamina problems and overrated power, and win a UD over 15, taking over after the fourth round.Dokes, however, could produce an early round knockdown.
