Im curiouse as to why you think Jones would stop Tunney. A man who was never stopped.

Roy Jones is always a bit of a wildcard in fantasy fights because he theoreticaly had the natural athleticism to beat anybody. Also, absolutely anybody could get embarased by him if they fought a dumb fight plan.

Having said that I would go with Tunney. If he didnt figure out the measure of Jones in their first fight he would get him in the rematch and the series.

Both magnificent but the only thing that plays on my mind with Jones is that his whole success was based on his tremendous speed and athletecism - he looked a very average boxer without it - so I'd have to say there is certainly far greater depth to Gene - far more complete a fighter - insanely tough to boot - and quick enough himself and smart enough himself not to be outdone like many would by someone as superlative as Roy - so I'm leaning marginally to Gene - but if Gene ended up winning it pretty clearly I'd say to everyone I knew it was going to be easy - Gene is too good for Jones full stop haha

Roy Jones' problem has always been that lazy left hand he leaves low and the showboating. Speed and reflexes were his game, and I believe he'd out-box Tunney for a few rounds. He's not winning the fight though. Maybe over 12 rounds, he could pull out a close UD against Tunney or a split decision win. Over 15 rounds, I'd favour Tunney. Gene was a very smart, tactical fighter that would find his way inside Jones's reach and counter him to a UD win. I think Jones would do too much shuckin' and jiving while Tunney fights him with a workman-like approach.

Roy Jones would beat Tunney convincingly.

Ezzard Charles and Michael Spinks are the only ones at Light Heavy who can beat Jones. Foster might have a punchers chance but not much else.

First of all thanks for the birthday wishes...As for Tunney and Jones, I actually like Tunney in this matchup. More sound fundementally speaking and very rugged as well. He also has a better chin. Had a brutal series with Greb and was able to come off the canvas and outbox Dempsey (though past his prime and rusty). I remember seeing a couple of Jones' fights where his opponent was dropped by very questionable punches. Tunney wouldn't be dropped so easily and certainly wouldn't be intimidated either. Jones'speed would be bothersome for awhile but sooner or later Tunney is going to figure him out and reach Roy's chin..and that spells trouble for Jones. Tunney by decision or late round stoppage.

    A word about Tunneys power.

At heavyweight it was unexceptional, but at light heavy he could take your head off.

Roy Jones is less fast and more skilled than people think.

Jones was a very hard hitter at 160-168lb, but not 175.
