Edited my original post to say Jones would win. I wouldn't like to estimate as to how, but I guess, gun to my head, I would say via a mid to late stoppage.
I have not! Last week training at the Turpin gym and then next Friday I fly back home. Fight is on 18th December. Thanks for asking!
Hah, me too. I didn't fight much in the amateurs, to be honest. I had no more than 20 fights. But I've been around the sport since, mostly training my little brother, and I was also working as a sparring partner for a pro who fights at cruiser (I'm but a shade over 147 myself) and his manager asked me to fight for him too, so I said ok, and that's how I got into it.
Lol at Jones stopping Tunney, a guy that never got downed until he met Dempsey. I can see Jones eking out a decision, but Tunney at LHW was a pretty live threat, certainly several levels above any fighter Jones ever took on ever, so yeah. He had real power at that weight, a good body attack, counterpunching, movement. I can't remember Jones taking on a boxer-puncher of that quality at any weight. I think the Greb and Jones comparison is a little dumb, by the way. Tunney KO imo.
Jones was a very explosive puncher and would also land far more often than Dempsey. I don't think fighting Jones with low hands is a very good idea either
Yeah, maybe you're right about Jones not being able to stop Tunney. I was mostly pointing out that the concept that Tunney handled Greb's speed so he would handle Jones' speed doesn't hold water.
I said Slightly. Jones was a Middleweight. at his best. With 15 extra pounds on his frame against naturally bigger fighters. At Light Heavy Jones was still great. but at 160. hand and foot speed were at they're peak.
