Gene Tunney, Why isn’t he higher on the all time list?

I’d have to disagree, when you’re talking about fighters of Greb’s calibre. He, Langford & Walker, & Armstrong too, prove otherwise IMO.

You must mean Greb. Pricey said no-one would pick him to beat SRR at 147....sorry Greg!

They aren't better than at their most natural greatest weight. That was 160 in Greb's case. If he was born to fight at 175 and prime i'd take him over Tunney probably every time out. Just because fighters win titles at higher weights doesn't mean they are just as good up there. The obvious exceptions are those who win titles at lower weights when they are still improving. Arguello at feather would be an example. Almost everyone agree's he was at his greatest at 130.

I have no doubt Greb was a greater H2H fighter at 160 and then there's career stage as well.

I could list you loads of greats who were not as good above their natural weight. It's common sense.

The fact that Greb was likely less great at LHW than at a lower weight doesn't rule out that he was still great at LHW, though - just as SSR was still one of the best MWs ever despite being less great than at WW, or Duran being a great WW despite being less great than at LW. Greb was still great enough at LHW to beat a litany of HoFers like Tommy Loughran, Jack Dillon, Battling Levinsky, Kid Norfolk, & Tommy Gibbons (just off the top of my head), plus HW contenders like Billy Miske & Bill Brennan. IMO, he's worthy of a spot in the all-time LHW top 10, & that's the context in which a victory over him at that weight should be viewed.

I forgive you for misinterpreting my post since English is not your native tongue.

I didn't even need to specify 147lbs John, which I've not weighed since I was around 15.

At around 195lbs currently, even the LW SRR that beat Sammy Angott would make short work of me.

The ABA title was considered a major belt at the time and both Greb and Tunney won it.

About 10 fighters won some version of the HW and LHW title before Spinks. Fitzsimmons was the first lineal champ to do it.

Best wins are against washed-up legends. Great fighter though.

I’d be shocked if it was a minority who thought Tunney could hang with these guys.

I hear you but Tunney is not considered to have ever won the 175 title.

I have no idea why Fitz was totally ignored by all and sundry prior to the Holmes - Spinks fight.

Just for the record i didn't remotely say Greb wasn't "great" at light heavy and nor have i said he isn't a top 10 LH which he obviously is, well inside the 10 to be frank.

I view their series and Greb at that point exactly as i stated and find that eminently fair and balanced.

Oh yeah well, his spit bucket carrier's elderly, disabled father, would beat me.
