An MMA guy would destroy a boxer in a grappling match...

There are literally thousands and thousands. Basketball, Rugby, Soccer, Hockey players are generally better aerobically and stronger than boxers. Never mind athletes in pure strength/power sports or pure endurance sports, they absolutely dwarf boxers.
It's not my opinion, it's documented. Have a look at VO2max for top boxers compared to the average Tour de France rider or cross country skier.

Boxing isn't a professional sport, due to the individual nature and the lack of a unifying body there are no real standards or benchmarks. With that you have generally subpar athletes. It's also a sport that is limited in it's appeal, so top athletes pursue more rewarding sports.
Boxing is a skill sport that isn't heavily physiologically weighted in either direction, that limits the ability or the benefit of being really fit or really strong. Good all round fitness compared to the average person sure but they aren't pushing the limits of anything, as athletes in other sports do.

That's not interesting at all. Where were they all in their training year and does Daly Thompson compete doing 200m pyramids? Could those boxers beat Daly Thompson at what he does?
Of course ****ing not. Fitness is very specific, running isn't just running, you adapt to what you impose on your body. Comparing fitness needs to be done in a valid way, you need to define exactly what you're measuring.

That's why your vertical treadmill is so ridiculously dumb, it's not specific to anything.

    Just out of interest ...

In theory there shouldn't be any difference given what VO2 max actually indicates but ...

If we measured VO2 on punch bag would we find that boxers record a figure closer to say a TDF cyclist?

Well my comment was in relation to conditioning so it's not irrelevent, top level boxers are conditioned incredibly well to do what they do and the same goes for MMA, they focus on different things.

Yet MMA'ers do boxing all the time too.

Don't act as if PURE BOXING is more gruelling than MMA training, as it isn't. For a decent level MMA'er, just training hands would be a day off almost.

It's funny that people think boxers are something special compared to all other combat athletes.

    They really aren't.

The energy output is higher in Kickboxing than it is in Boxing.

The 'toughness' element is much higher in Muay Thai than it is in Boxing.

The physical aspect is harder in Judo and Wrestling than it is in Boxing.

Boxers are remarkably tough people with amazing endurance (Ward/Gatti confirms both points), but they aren't the best athletes in combat sports let alone sports.

That's because YOU ARE not a good athlete, so you are projecting.
