Why do you have that opinion? Who exactly has he beaten at 154? Do you really think he'd beat Trout, Lara or even Molina at this point?

I don't disagree with your concept, but you saying you think Cotto is the best in that weight class proves why that's not all one can rely on. I mean, who the hell knows if he's the best there. None of the top guys have fought each other. I'd probably pick him to lose to most of the top 10.

It does by definition. Undisputed means the man who beat everyone who matters. I mean, how many undisputed champs have there been in the last 25 or so years? Three or four? Definitely Hopkins, Calzaghe and Tyson, and probably Lewis, but who else?

It all varies depending on what situation your in.

For example lets look at Andre Ward,

His first aim should be to beat Bute, then should he go after bigger names? defend the titles he would own? or chase after the WBO champ which would be Stieglitz or Groves?

It's going to be a different choice each time you go through it, personally I don't think he needs to face the WBO champ unless it's actually a credible champion, but if you ask others if he has three titles why not get four?

Another example lets look at Manny Pacquiao

The obvious one he should be looking at is beating Floyd Mayweather, if that can't happen should he face people with big names? people his fans suggest? or chase the titles, which unfortunately because of the difference in class between him and floyd and the rest of division would be viewed as him collecting paper titles.

Personally I think the most important thing for a boxer is to be able to say he is a legit world champion, if they can achieve more then great, if they can;t at least they can say 'I worked for my title'

Being the peoples champ. That means being the champ in the eyes of the boxing public and the experts. Regardless of any titles.

What about if the undisputed champion gets a gift decision in a fight.

The man who deserved the decision would then be the best but he wouldn't be undisputed.

For me, 9 times out of 10 the undisputed champion will be the best, just not always.

winning one of the big two belts and keeping it against the top contenders. WBC and WBA.

    then unify.

Well, if there is a robbery, he's neither ''the best'' nor ''the undisputed champion'', despite what the record says.

Well if he deserves to defeat the an with all the belts, i'd be pretty confident calling him the best.
